RONCARI, Raymond A. Raymond A. Roncari, beloved husband of 60 years to Madeleine (Rabbett) passed from this life on Thursday, (August 3, 2006) at home surrounded by his loving family. The life of Ray began in Windsor Locks on March 24, 1924, the youngest child of Guido and Josephine (Grossi) Roncari. Ray graduated Windsor Locks High School Class of 1942 then joined the 179th Infantry-45th Division serving in the North African/Salerno/Cassino/Anzio Campaigns. After being wounded and receiving a purple heart, Ray returned to the front and was taken prisoner of war on the beachhead in Anzio on February 18, 1944, spending 14 months in German prison camps in Italy and Germany, escaping in April 1945. Returning to the United States, Ray went to work for his brothers Albert, and Angelo who had started Roncari Industries during the war, and to the gal of his dreams since he was 12 years old. Ray married Madeleine in 1946. As the years passed, Ray's devotion to his church and community increased. The list of civic involvement is long and impressive, but Ray never boasted about any of his accomplishments, except when it came to his family or his love of The Lord. After 53 years in business Ray sold Roncari Industries, which operated in Windsor Locks and East Granby. He conceived, developed, built and operated Bradley Teletheater before turning it over to the state of Conn. At the time of his death, Ray was President and Owner of Roncari Express Valet Parking in Windsor Locks and partner with daughter Leslie in Script R Farm. His "Winloc" horses are legendary in the racing circle, as was his love of the sport. Some of Ray's resume reads as such: past presidents of Chamber of Commerce & Rotary, First Recipient – Young Man of the Year Award given by the Jaycees of Windsor Locks, Former Director and Former Chairman of the Board of CT Construction Industries Association and Man of the Year Award in 1989, Past Director of CT Road Builders Association, Former Director of CT Business & Industry Association, Past President and Director of CT Bituminous Concrete Producers Association, CT Ready Mixed Concrete Association, CT Crushed Stone Association. Ray's love of the Passionist Community was an integral part of his life. He was instrumental in the building of Holy Family Monastery in West Hartford where he was made an Honorary Member of the Passionist Congregation in 1990. He was Co-Founder, First President and Director of the Council for Moral Leadership with Rev. Joseph Leo Flynn, C.P., Past President or Chairman of Holy Family Retreat Leagues and Co-Chairman of the National Retreat Convention in 1956. He was a Fourth Degree Member of Riverside Council 26 CT Knights of Columbus, Master Knight in the Order of Malta, Knight of St. Gregory. Ray organized and prompted rehabilitation activities for alcoholics, drug addicts and prison parolees. He was a former incorporator of the Statewide Narcotics Addiction Prevention Program, Member of The Hartford Club, Boy's Town of Italy Man of the Year Award, 1988, Windsor Locks Community Service Award, and The Order of the Town Hat, 1992. The list goes on, yet it was his family and his church, which sustained Ray these past few months as he fought a valiant battle with cancer. We, his loving family, wish to thank, from the bottom of our hearts, Timothy J. Hong, M.D. from the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center for his most compassionate care. The day dad shook Dr. Hong's hand and said, "I'm in your care Doc," Dr. Hong guided us all through an incredible journey. To all the oncology nurses and staff at the Center, you are angels deserving a special place in this life, thank you. We thank the staff at Parkway Pavilion for the loving care you gave our dad and your help in getting him home and to the Vernon VNA/Hospice care angels who gently transitioned us through dad's transition. His family left behind to live on and carry out his legacy are his beloved wife, Madeleine; children, Gregory Roncari, Dale Meck, Deborah and Paul Murdock, Robin Roncari, Leslie and Joe Marconi, Alicia and Peter Johnson; grandchildren, Blaire and Terrence Meck, Jonathan and Seth Paulo, Jake Marconi and Zachary Johnson; and dear friends, Joseph Paulo, sister-in-law, Pauline Roncari and Louise Marinone; along with nieces and nephews who will miss their uncle Ray dearly. Ray was predeceased by his brothers, Angelo and Albert; and sisters, Peggy Petersen and Maria Cavalieri. As a life long member of St. Mary Church and Eucharist Minister, as well as cross bearer for funerals, dad will have a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 7 preceded by a funeral procession from the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks at 9 a.m. to St. Mary Church, 42 Spring Street, Windsor Locks for a Mass at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be Sunday, 5-8 p.m. at Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks. We ask as an expression of sympathy that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Mary Church, 42 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, CT 06096 or Holy Family Monastery, 303 Tunxis Ave., West Hartford, CT 06107. To all of you wonderful friends and family who have written to us here with your condolences, we thank you sincerely for your kind words, for sharing your stories about dad, for loving and caring about him and appreciating his goodness. Each day we feel the love more and more of those whose lives dad touched. We miss him so very much and the void in our lives is great, but when we read and re-read your notes we feel closer to him and comforted.
To see names from long ago, St. Mary School days, high school, work, and see how you remembered us and our dad means so much to all of the family.
Please keep us in your prayers. Thank you.

Deb,Paul,Robin,Madeleine & Family,
My heartfelt sympathy is with you as you cope with losing Ray. As a former employee, I feel blessed to have been part of his team. Ray and I shared an Italian heritage and love of horses. His goodness and wisdom touched so many and lives on in his wonderful family. May you find comfort in each other, your memories and knowing that Ray's special love lives on.

My heartfelt condolences to you all. Dale, I am so very sorry! I just recently learned about the passing of your wonderful Dad and my heart bleeds for you and your family. Madeline, I particularly enjoyed reading, just tonight, Aug. 16th, that Ray fell in love with you when he was 12 years old! What a wonderful marriage you had, and what great mentors you both were to your loving children. I am so very sorry for your loss. When you are up to it, give my mom a call and maybe pay her a visit. She would be just thrilled to see you. She loved you and Ray and all of your children like her own. She told me that you looked just as pretty as you ever did in the picture that was in the Windsor Locks Reminder of you and Ray at your 60th anniversary. My condolences to you and your entire family! Dale, hang in there, I love you!!

Dear Madeleine and your very special family, please accept my sincerest sympathy at your loss of a very special father, husband, and friend. Needless to say, Raymond was a very significant influence on my decision to join the Knights of Columbus back in the early 70's with my Dad, Don. It is decision I have never, once, regretted. How ironic that your Husband and Dad, paved his way to Heaven every day of his life. I will always remember Ray and his special devotion to all. Sincerely, Tom Kania

Dear Mrs.Roncari,Greg,Dale,Debbie,Robin,
Leslie,Alicia, and all of Ray's family, All I can remember is the trememdous help your husband and father was to my family when we lost my dear sister Betty. He was there for my parents, to be strong for them during their grief and saddness. His words during her funeral mass I remember, went something like this "during her last moments of life Betty's thoughts were with the Lord and she was comforted". I think that is just what your Raymond Roncari did for so many many people, he comforted them with his love and kindness. We all were blessed to know such a wonderful, giving man in our lives. He will never be forgotten. God bless you and remember you will see him again someday. With love always, Judy Wilson

Martha will be crushed when I tell her and I am sure will be in touch as soon as we return. Ray was obviously a treasure and inspiration. His generosity and kindness to others were unmatched. I know you realize how lucky you all were to have him and he sure realized how important a loving family was to him. Talk to you soon Martha and Tom Fahey

To the Ray Roncari Family: I met Ray and the rest of the family at St. Mary church. Although I barely knew Ray, he made such an impression on me. He was a man that lived his life as Jesus had asked. He was kind and gentle, always willing to help. He brought up a WONDERFUL family. His devotion to God, family, and community (and all of mankind) were ever present. He did the Lord's work so well! Perhaps that is why we miss him so. It will be sad not to see him in church again. But though we do not see him in all the old familiar places, we can be certain, that he will be waiting for us in Heaven. He even had a good singing voice, so perhaps he is singing in heaven. May he be with God and may the Lord watch over his loved ones until they meet again. Thank you for sharing with us.

When I think of Ray, I always smile. From compiling the Who’s Who List to countless Roncari Express Valet meetings, I have the fondest memories of RAR. When I became the first Roncari Industries employee to become pregnant, Ray asked me to help him draft the maternity policy. He came to me and asked me “So what will you need?” It was wide open to him and he wanted to know what would make my life easier. I used to love to see Ray walk the halls ringing the bell – oh, what a smile he would have on his face as he congratulated his team for their efforts in winning the latest contract. It wasn’t about him – it was always about us. I met one of my best friends in Ray’s daughter Deb and my heartfelt sympathies go out to her and all of Ray’s family. He will be missed, but he will always bring a smile to many, many people when they think of him. God bless you all. Love, Nancy

To The Roncari Family:
On April 20th, my second grandson was born. Within a few hours of his birth, he experienced respiratory distress and was rushed to the NICU at St. Francis Hospital. With his prognosis in question and his condition critical, I stopped by St. Mary's Church late in the afternoon to pray. At some point Ray entered the Church and began saying the Stations of the Cross, eventually making his way down to where I was seated. With his usual smile, he engaged me in quiet, reflective conversation. He took some time to comfort me and prayed with me, promising to keep our sick baby in his prayers. I will never forget this true, gentle man for the strength he helped me find that afternoon.
I am sure there are hundreds, if not thousands, of stories like mine to be told about this wonderful man. May you all find comfort in knowing that our prayers are now with you in your time of grief.

To all the Roncari family,
The world has lost a wonderful man, but our loss is God's gain as Ray Roncari continues his good works in the place where there is no more suffering and pain.

Dear Madeleine, Leslie and Family,
Mr. Roncari was a wonderful man, kind and generous to so many during his life. I know he paved many a road (both literally and figuratively) and now he is walking on streets of gold, talking with the King of Kings and having reunions with loved ones and friends who went on before him. I have lots of wonderful childhood memories to cherish - ice cream, yellow pads, horses, and of course - his station wagons!
With love,
