Bernard Soldate Obituary

Bernard John Soldate "Bernie the Bug", of Simsbury passed away to be with God on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital. Born September 21, 1939 in Hartford son of the late Frank and Anne (Sielicki) Soldate. He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Susan Tigno of Simsbury; his sister, Elaine (Soldate) McNeely of Bloomfield and sister-in-law, Josie Soldate of Granby. As a dad, he leaves behind a daughter, Dawn McDermott; two sons, Christopher Soldate and Brian Soldate; along with stepchildren, Christina (Tigno) Gardner, Anna (Tigno) Freeman, and Joseph Tigno. As a grandfather he leaves behind Alexa, Justin, and Matthew McDermott, Steven Soldate, Jordan Soldate, Haley Gardner, Nicholas and Jake Freeman, and Tyler Tigno. As he passed on, he went to join his late twin brother, Frank Soldate and late brother-in-law, Hal McNeely. Bernie and his brother had a craving for collecting cars, boats, jeeps- mostly anything with a motor and became adept in this field, at one point having 10-12 vehicles of all sorts. Bernie came to be fascinated with private investigating, for which came the slogan "Bernie's the name, crimes may game – you pay me good, I'll finger the hood". He also developed the skill of designing and assembling investigating equipment for law enforcement, as well as going on to be a well-known polygraph examiner for 40 years. The world has lost a wonderful, caring man who always helped anyone in need. God has chosen one of the best to join his flock. Praying he will be the one to watch over all of us; do well with God my love. His family will receive friends Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 5-7 PM followed by a 7:00 PM funeral service all at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. Burial will be Friday, March 8, 2019 a 12:00 PM in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.

Bernie was a long-treasured friend. With his
passing, my trio of legal mentors is now gone.
A chapter of my life has closed, and my heart
goes out to Susie and his family. In thinking
about Bernie, I will remember that he loved a
challenge and loved adventure. I will think of his smile; like his brother, he never met a
stranger. Bernie was a collector of cameras,
cars, boats, electronics, and friends. He will
be missed. Now reunited with family, collies
Piper and Aero, his St. Bernard, and my other
mentors Joe Keefe and Ed Grady, he is home...
Until we all meet again one faraway day I wish him the "Deep Peace of the Shining Stars"
Love, Lin

Bernie was a great colleague of mine. A man with a big heart and a Chesterfield cigarette in his right hand. Crackerjack polygrapher and investigator. An outstanding man who I was proud to know. He will always remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Much Love,

I love Bernie. He was such a great brother in law and a great guy. Everyone loved him. I have a lot of fond memories of all the good times we had and all the laughs at the family get togethers. He was so much fun to be with. I will miss him. So will my kids April and Michael.

Susie, Elaine and all the family, My brother Don and I have you in our thoughts, prayers and hearts, not only now but always! It's not often in life that when you try to speak of someone, there just isn't the words to convey how you feel, felt and what they meant to you. Bernie is one of a kind, I was blessed to have him as a cousin and a friend. Of all the things I still don't know in life, the one absolute thing I do is that Bernie loved his family more then anything in the world and beyond, each and everyone of you!! As he would end every conversation, it wasn't with good bye, but, love, hugs and kisses!Denis
