Rolf D. Scheidel

1934 - 2019

Rolf D. Scheidel, 84, resident of South Windsor, Connecticut between 1965 and 1992, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2019 at his home in Saarlouis, Germany. After his retirement from Pratt & Whitney, East Hartford in September 1992, Rolf moved to Saarlouis where he has been living ever since with his second wife, Edith Goertz. Born November 9, 1934 in Munich, Germany, he was the son of the late Fred W. and Bernadine (née Heck) Scheidel of Shelton, Connecticut. Rolf immigrated with his parents to the US in 1953 and became a citizen in 1959. After graduation from Johns Hopkins University in 1960, he was employed as a senior analytical engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft until his retirement in 1992. Besides his wife Edith, Rolf is also survived by three children from his previous marriage to Elizabeth R. Austin from Storrs. The oldest son John resides in Hopkinton, Massachusetts with his wife Pamela and their daughter Ariana. His daughter Susan, married to Jens Breitung, resides in Jena, Germany and is the mother of three children, Sebastian, Christopher, and Thomas. Rolf's youngest son Paul lives in Storrs. Rolf will be dearly missed but his legacy of a hard work ethic, positive and caring attitude, friendliness, and generosity will live on.
