Arthur Tierney Obituary

Arthur R. Tierney, 91, of Glastonbury, husband of the late Kathleen P. (Cross) Tierney, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Hartford Hospital. Art was born May 14, 1929 in Paterson, NJ, son of the late Arthur L. and Alice (DeWolf) Tierney. Art lived in Glastonbury for the past 44 years. Some of the many joys of his life was being together with his loving family, especially enjoying time together at the beach in R.I., playing golf, and family picnics. Art also took pleasure in watching and feeding the birds and was a faithful patron of the theater. He worked for Graybar, an electrical supply company, as a Salesperson and Branch Manager and retired after 30 years. Art went on to own Frank A. Blesso, Inc., in Hartford retiring in 2001. He was a very kind, loving, caring, generous, humble man giving of his time and talent to many. Art was a board member for the Intensive Education Academy, the Sisters of St. Joseph, and the Tabor House. He was a former member of the Canoe Club in East Hartford and former member of the Glastonbury Rotary Club. Art is survived by his 6 children and their spouses, Susan and Spencer Gates of East Hampton, Carol Butler of Cheshire, Patricia and Robert Toller of South Glastonbury, Sharon Tierney of Westerly, RI, Robert and Susan Tierney of Glastonbury, Michael and Sandra Tierney of Glastonbury, 21 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren of whom he was very proud. He was predeceased by 2 daughters Kathleen Tierney and Mary Ann Tierney, a grandson Justin Pelc and his brother Edward Tierney. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Charmaine and Keisha, of Oxford Healthcare, and Jamila at The Hearth, who went above and beyond each and every day to care for our father. The family is also appreciative of the dedicated nursing staff and management at The Hearth, Encompass, and Fox Therapy who brought joy and smiles to his life. While Art was loved by many, funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Horizons, Inc., 127 Babcock Hill Road, South Windham, CT 06266. For online condolences please visit www.mulryanfh.com

My condolences to all the Tierneys . Still have such fond memories of those days on Lincoln Drive. That house is always referred to as the Tierney house by the various Tinsons. Art will be missed by many.

Our heartfelt condolences to all the Tierney Family. I got to know Art very well from my many years at IEA. He was a great guy who cared about others and liked to ‘get things done’. Heaven will be blessed by his presence. Annie Mariano
