James Tierney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John F. Tierney Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 6, 2026.
James Patrick Tierney, Jr. (Jim) born on August 29, 1941, passed into eternal peace on January 31, 2026, while under hospice care. He was 84. James was born in Manchester, Connecticut, to the late James Tierney and Mary Whippet Tierney and predeceased by his brother Robert Tierney. He married his wife Anne Marie (Penny) Tierney on November 14, 1975, and they shared over 50 years together.

Jim honorably served in the U.S. Army. He learned his tool and die trade at Porter & Chester Institute and worked in the field until he retired, forming long lasting friendships. He loved fishing, golfing, hunting and NASCAR racing. He also was an avid Yankees baseball fan. Jim loved to tell stories, whether it was the first time or the hundredth time, his stories were always funny and brought smiles to those around him.

In addition to his wife Penny, he is survived by his four daughters, Laura Rollinson, Leslie Anderson, Jennifer Wright and her partner Stephen Garofalo, and Linda Rosi. His sister Jean (Tierney) Terza and brother-in-law David Terza and his sister-in-law Lillie Tierney. Jim (Pops) is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Christopher Rollinson, Benjamin Rollinson, Sean Burke, Jonathan Anderson, Joseph Anderson, Jaime Harley, Lauren Hartley, and multiple great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 28, 2026, starting at 1:00 p.m. at Pepe's Restaurant & Lounge, 300 West Middle Turnpike, Manchester, CT 06042.

Donations can be made to his name to the American Stroke Foundation.
