James Sluss

Mr. James Paul Sluss born April 20, 1939 departed this life on Friday May 6, 2016 at his residence in Krypton, Kentucky being 77-years, and 16-days old. Jim was born in Canton, Ohio the Son of the late Galan Sluss and the late Odessa Sluss. Jim was also preceded in death by Brother-In-Law, Bradley Moore; Father-In-Law, Ace Howard; Mother-In-Law, Margaret Campbell Howard. Jim had been a resident of Perry County since 1992. Jim graduated from Seminary in 1966, came to Perry County and taught in a one room school and worked at Krypton Bible Center for three years. In 1969 he married Sarah Lois Howard and they moved to Nappannee, IN and from 1969-1975 he served as pastor of the Nappannee Brethren Church, from 1975-1982 at Dutchtown Brethren Church near Warsaw, Indiana, 1982-1987 at Lathrop Brethren Church, 1987-1992 at Roanoke Brethren Church and 1992-Present at Krypton Brethren Church. Jim was honored to serve as National Moderator for the Brethren Church in 1990. While living in Perry County he was employed by Hazard-Perry County Community Ministries from 1993-2007 and Hospice of the Bluegrass from 2007-Present, and also served on the Board of Directors of the Riverside Christian Training School.

Mr. James Paul Sluss leaves the following relatives to cherish his memory: Wife, Sarah Lois Sluss of Krypton; Son, Paul Sluss & Jennifer of Krypton; Daughter, Gayl Husband & Troy of Roanoke, IN; Four Grandchildren, Madeline, Jack, Avery and Quinn; 12-Brother-In-Laws, 12-Sister-In-Laws, friends from Hospice of the Bluegrass and Hazard A.R.H. Cardiac Rehab Department, and many other relatives and friends survive.

Funeral Services for Mr. James Paul Sluss will be conducted on Monday May 9, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. at the Krypton Brethren Church with Paul Sluss officiating. The Interment will follow in the Rocklick Cemetery located at Krypton, Kentucky. The Visitation will be at the Engle-Bowling Funeral Home on Sunday Evening from 3-5 P.M. and from 6-9 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Bluegrass. Engle-Bowling Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
