George Corcoran Obituary
CORCORAN, Jr., GEORGE C., 77, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL passed away on January 3, 2005. Mr. Corcoran, was born in New Jersey, served in the U.S. Navy following graduation from Atlantic High School in 1945. Following his discharge, he attended Villanova University, graduating with a bachelor of science in economics. He served 37 years of distinguished Federal service. He advanced rapidly within Customs, serving as the special agent in charge in Savannah; as the regional staff assistant in Miami; as senior special agent for Security, Washington, DC; and as the Customs attache in Paris, France, where he also was area coordinator for Customs narcotic programs throughout Europe and the Middle East. Returning to the United States in 1973, he was appointed assistant Commissioner of Customs. He held that position until his appointment as regional commissioner of the U.S. Customs Southeast Region. Mr. Corcoran has received numerous Treasury Department superior performance awards, and commendations from various law enforcement agencies, Treasury Department Meritorious Service Award 1975; U.S. Customs Service Honor Award 1977; U.S. Customs Outstanding Accomplishment Award, 1982; Commissioner of Customs Commendation for Superior Performance and Outstanding Accomplishments, 1985; Secretary of the Treasury Letter of Commendation, 1985 and 1989; and the Presidential Meritorious Executive Award, 1980 and 1992. George is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Peggy, and their five children and four grandchildren; Peggy Corcoran, Coleen Rought, Kathleen Corcoran, George C. Corcoran, III and Frank W. Corcoran, grandchildren Michelle, Colin, Jamey and George, sister Terry Gurry her four children and 10 children of his late sister Kathryn Maguire. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Alzheimer Society in honor of his sister Terry, or a Church of Charity of your choice. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 6th from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm in the Baird-Case/Jordan Fannin Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 7th at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2511 N Ocean Blvd, Ft.
