JULIO CARBALLOSA Obituary

CARBALLOSA, JULIO, was born in Antillas, Cuba, on February 11, 1919. He painted his first painting at the age of nine, realizing that he was born with a gift. He decided to cultivate such by attending the San Alejandro Academy of Arts in Havana, Cuba years later. At the age of twenty, he travelled to Europe where he enrolled at the Royal Academy of San Fernando in Madrid, Spain and eventually obtaining a Master's Degree. In the same year he returned to his country of birth, where he exposed his talent in several art shows across the nation, receiving silver and gold medals in recognition of his unique art. In 1959, Mr. Carballosa came to the United States, leaving behind several hundred masterpieces and collections valued in the thousands of dollars. This was a hardship to the "Master of the Brush", as his colleagues often addressed him. His ability to create from abstract to contemporary, to classical art to an oil portrait or to a fresco mural, gave him the immortality that every artist seeks. Mr. Carballosa died from natural causes on July 14, 2012 at 93 years of age in Miami, Florida. A devout Catholic, he leaves behind a legacy of artwork for all to enjoy. There will be a mass at 10:30 am at St. Brendan Church, 87 Ave and SW 32 Street. Mr. Carballosa is survived by his sons Luis and Julio Jr., his grandchildren Angelica, Michael, Yvette, Veronica, Eduardo, Julio and Angela. View this Guest Book at www. MiamiHerald.com/obituaries.

My deepest condolences to the family. My maiden name is Ana Guiu. My father was Joaquin Guiu, son of Filiberta Carballosa. When we first arrived in Miami, in 1962, I remember we stayed with Julio Carballosa's family. I believe they were the ones who sponsored our visas to get to the US. I don't know if Julio Sr. Was my dad's uncle or his cousin. In any case, both my parents have passed, and I have no one to provide the details anymore, as my own memory has faded. I would love to reconnect with that side of my family. If someone could reach out to me I would be very grateful. My number is 708-471-9986. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss.
