Agnes Box Obituary

The Stelzenmueller and Box families sadly report that Agnes Stelzenmueller Box passed away on Saturday morning, Oct. 11, 2008, of natural causes.
She was born Aug. 7, 1950, in Klamath Falls, Ore., to Fred (Fritz) H. and Betty McIrvin Stelzenmueller.
Agnes grew up in Klamath, graduating from Klamath Union High School in 1968. She attended OIT, earning an associate's degree in accounting technology in 1991 and a Bachelor of Science in industrial management with honors in 1994, then an MBA from Southern Oregon University in 1997.
In 1968, Agnes married Richard Box, of Sebastopol, Calif. They lived in Ashland, Ore., and in 1969 had a son Thomas. The marriage did not last, but her love of family continued.
Agnes felt that she could never do enough to provide every opportunity for her son. Thomas' development and his many successes were the things she was most proud of. She also was a very loving caregiver to her mother, visiting and caring for her on a daily basis.
She moved back to Klamath Falls in 1974, beginning a telecommunications career in 1976 at OIT that spanned 32 years. Her final position was Telecommunications Coordinator in the Information Technology Services department at OIT. In her professional capacity, she had responsibilities for state and regional strategic initiatives that supported academic programs and administrative processes, as well as local industry.
At the time of her passing Agnes was nearly the longest employed staff member at OIT. Her knowledge was highly valued in her work on the Oregon Telecommunications Coordinating Council and Klamath Telecommunications task force.
Agnes was very active in the community. She was an early organizer of Assistance League. Since 2004, she was OIT's campaign coordinator for the United Way and joined the United Way Board of Directors in 2005. She was also active in political campaigns and efforts, frequently serving as a Republican Party Precinct committeewoman.
Agnes was preceded in death by her father and brothers, Fred and Kurt. She is survived by her son, Thomas Box, and daughter-in-law, Tiffany Box; mother Betty; brother George Edward Stelzenmueller; sister Ruth Simmons; niece Eisha Hayes; and nephew Craig Stelzenmueller.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held on Nov. 15 in Klamath Falls with pertinent details to be released by the family in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Oregon Tech Foundation in Memory of Agnes S. Box. The e-mail address [email protected] is available for sharing of memories and condolences.

I have many memories of my time at OIT and working in the computer center. Agnes was always kind to me and always offered encouragement to me. I´m sad to learn of her passing.

So sad to learn of Agnes passing. She was so kind to me as a student worker in her area. I remember working with her, Rick Lengel, Cher, Rose, and Bill Lewis in OIT campus computing in South Hall (now Bovine Hall). She was so nice and pleasant and helpful to me and my work and duties. I had no idea she was in Ashland, OR for a while where I grew up and oddly enough in the same time frame her son Thomas was there, and he was a few years older than me. Truly Sad. I was looking up Dr. Winston Purvine passing OBIT and found Agnes.

I met Agnes when I was a consultant for OIT some 15 years ago, thus initiating a friendship that endured until her untimely passing. We didn't have many occasions to meet face-to-face but our many email conversations were something I always very much looked forward to. She was a remarkable person in so many ways.

I just found out lastnight that Agnes passed away. Shocked is an understatement. I always thought I would have a chance to catch up with her. We all knew where to find Agnes. I'll never forget her and it will always sadden me to think she is gone.

Throughout my years at OIT, starting with my time as a student and concluding as Director of Computing Services, Agnes was always there to help. Her dedication to the college was strong and continual, a benefit to such a great institution. She was so proud of Thomas and his many accomplishments, it brought a smile to her face every time! We were fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit with her in September.

Our family will miss her and our condolences to her family and friends.
