Gerald Shults Obituary

Gerald Edward Shults was born on Sept. 5, 1915, to Jay and Bertha Shults in the Rock Island Line Train Depot in Gem, Kansas.
In 1922, the family moved to Seibert County, where Jerry attended a one-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade. He graduated from high school in 1933 at Seibert High School in a class of 13.
In 1937, Jerry moved to Klamath Falls, where he worked for Liskey's turkey farm hauling grain and raising turkeys.
He married Juanita on Aug. 26, 1939, and they started a family on Jan. 7, 1941.
Jerry worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps during World War II. He helped build the containment camps in Newell, Calif., and ammo depots in Oregon, Idaho and Utah, then to Vancouver, Wash., where he built Liberty Ships (he said that as fast as the enemy could sink'em). One ship was christened by Eleanor Roosevelt.
He was a carpenter from 1940 to 2010. He retired from the Local 190 Carpenter's Union in 1980.
He loved to hunt and fish and just be out in nature from walking a wagon trail to family picnics.
Jerry loved most being with his family of seven children, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Juanita, son Donald, daughter Vicki, and granddaughter Christina.
Survivors include his children Jim and Jeanne Shults of Fairfield, Calif., Sandy and Bill Dixon of Merlin, Ore., Bob and Debi Luther of Rocky Pont, Ore., Geri Lynn Shults of Klamath Falls, and Mike and Teresa Shults of Klamath Falls.
Jerry lived a long and happy life and is loved by so many. He will be missed.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in Ward's Klamath Funeral Home, 1945 Main St.
