Karen Jean Haugen passed away April 2nd 2021 in the same Everett hospital she was born in on April 8th 1960. She joined her parents Roger & Bonnie in heaven.
Karen leaves behind her sister Randi Gilbertson (Dennis) & nephew, Riley, brother Rick Haugen (Shawn) & niece Rikki, Warren & Brett Otness, & numerous aunts, uncles, & cousins.
She passed from complications with juvenile diabetes, a disease she battled for 55 years. She endured it all courageously with her four-legged companions whom she loved dearly. Karen is happy to be back in the saddle on her beloved horses. She will be laid to rest next to her parents at a later date.

Dearest Haugen and Gilbertson Families: Our deepest condolences and heartfelt hugs. As you know, we loved your beloved sister/auntie so very much. Her ability to always have a smile and an upbeat attitude as she traveled through her challenges with diabetes always amazed Phil and I. I will forever carry her in my heart knowing she is riding high in the saddle again.

Cousins have a special place in our hearts growing up. We lived in Spokane growing up, so anytime we could come visit or the Haugen’s coming to our house was the best! Going on camping trips and playing, riding horses are just some of the special memories I have. When Karen was a teenager she asked me to go to the movie Carrie with her. I asked what it was about and she told me it was a love story, she knew I did not like scary movies. Well Carrie was a very scary movie, and I made it through it until the last scene when I jumped up and screamed! Oh she laughed, I never let her pick the movie again. Love you and will always miss your laugh!

She will be missed. She had such a beautiful presence, you could hear her laugh as soon as she came in the house. She taught me to cross stitch when she babysat for us when I was in 4th grade, I still stitch and think of her every time. She’s joined her mom and aunt barb and I can’t imagine the ruckus!
