Grant Saylor Obituary

Grant F. Saylor, renowned maritime watercolor and oil artist, passed away October 19, 2018. He leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Ellen; daughter, Amy; son, Grant; and stepson, James. He is also survived by his cousin, Jo Ann Moen of Shoreline, WA. Grant was born in Everett, WA in 1930 to Fred and Hazel Saylor. He attended Whitman College, and served as a graphic artist and illustrator in the U.S. Air Force before receiving a BFA, summa cum laude in Graphic Arts and Illustration from Pratt Institute in New York City. He was a lifetime member of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters, and a signature member of both the Northwest Watercolor Society and the esteemed American Society of Marine Artists. Grant was also a gifted operatic singer with a wonderful sense of humor who loved the beauty of the Puget Sound region. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hazel; uncle, Norm Saylor; uncle, Bill and aunt, Violet Cammenga; and aunt, Lucille Doty. The family wishes to thank Brad and Carrie Boardman for their loving, compassionate care the last 18 months, as well as Evergreen Hospice. Grant's spirit will soar on. Burial service will be Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Tahoma National Cemetery, 2:00 p.m.
