Charles Moran Obituary

Charles M. Moran Jr., 88, of Tiverton, RI passed away at St. Annes Hospital on February 18th, 2021. Born in Fall River, MA on November 19, 1932, he was the son of Charles M. Moran, Sr. and Helen (Henline) Moran who preceded him in death in 1984 and 2001 respectively. He is survived by his wife of over 55 years, Barbara Ann (Hill) Moran. Mr. Moran was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School in 1950 and Brown University in 1954. He served in the ROTC at Brown and was drafted in the Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service, he worked at Honeywell before transitioning to print journalism. He was a stringer for the Providence Journal and Fall River Herald News, and eventually the editor and publisher of the Tiverton Bulletin in the mid 1960's. He then worked in the office at the family business, National Roofing Company until its closing in 1984. It was also during that time he returned to school and earned a law degree from the New England School of Law. Charles was passionate about local government and politics. He served on the Tiverton Planning Board for from 1963 until 1975 and again from 1978 until 1988. He also served on the Town's Personnel Board in 1977 and 1978. Mr. Moran later went on to serve as chairman of Tiverton's Democratic Town Committee from 1995 until 2011. He was an alternate on the Board of Canvassers from 2011 until 2014. He was part of Congressman David Cicilline's Seniors Advisory Council during the congressman's first term. Charles believed strongly in citizens exercising their right to vote and offered rides to the polls for voters without transportation and often organized meal delivery to poll workers of both parties on Election Day in Tiverton throughout the years. Mr. Moran was a communicant of St. Christopher's Church for over 80 years. He was an usher and collector from the early 1950's until 2012, usually at the last mass on Sundays. He served on its Parish Council from 1976 to 1978. Charles was an avid sports fan since childhood, especially of baseball. In addition to his wife, Charles is survived by his sons, Matthew S. Moran and Brian P. Moran, both of Tiverton; as well as a brother, John H Moran and sister-in-law Sue-Ann (Constance) Moran also of Tiverton; as well as many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral Mass on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 10 a.m. in St. Christopher's Church, 1584 Main Rd., Tiverton. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Tiverton.
