Robert Lesslie Obituary

Dr. Robert and Barbara Lesslie
April 7, 2021
Rock Hill, South Carolina - The Lord called Dr. Robert D. Lesslie, Sr., 70, and his wife, Barbara Smith Lesslie, 69, home to glory, together with two of their beloved grandchildren, on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
A memorial service will be held at 3pm on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at West End Baptist Church with Dr. J. Barry Dagenhart and Rev. John Oliphant officiating.
Authored by Robert, and heavily edited by Barbara, the story of their lives is inspired first and foremost by the Holy Spirit. Robert and Barbara met and fell in love at Erskine College. They celebrated -- and tolerated -- one another's tomfoolery in marriage for more than 47 years. Their love spanned a half a century and was the foundation that built a legacy of laughter, service, and devotion.
"Mz. B" (a.k.a. Miss Hannigan, Mother Goose, co-author of the Come See Me Theme song, and Nana) is a bright shining light that fills every space with joy, enthusiasm, glitter, love, and a youthful exuberance. She has never met a problem that could not be solved with a hot glue gun, a diet coke, or a song and dance. She never met a stranger she would not embrace. And she never ate a meal that wasn't her "absolute favorite ever." Barbara's well-worn Bible is filled with notes in the margins and tributes to loved ones. Mz. B's passion was sharing the Gospel with adults, children, and the special needs community by teaching and walking in faith.
Robert is the quintessential renaissance man, who at any given moment could be found . . .
* Beekeeping,
* Bagpiping,
* Propagating (both
children and plants),
* Writing,
* Exercising,
* Spoiling grandchildren,
* Patching up aches and
pains,
* Boardgaming (with loose
rule interpretations),
* Pursuing expertise in
countless subjects, and
* Actively seeking ways to
avoid retirement.
Honoring their lives on this side of heaven are Lori, Rob, Denton, and Jack Alexander, Amy, Dave, Connor, Caris, and Christian Kulbok, Robbie, Abby, Sadie, Denton, and Silas Lesslie, and Jeff and Katie Lesslie.
Robert and Barbara Lesslie both lived to share their direct connection to God with not just those they loved, but also with everyone they met. We can only imagine that they were greeted in heaven with the words, "Well, done, my good and faithful servants."
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Robert and Barbara's name to Camp Joy North Carolina, 918 South Pleasantburg Dr, Greenville, SC 29607.

Although absent in body, Dr. and Mrs. Lesslie will forever remain with us in spirit. While they will be sorely missed, the work that they have both done will continue to speak for them. My husband and I continue to send prayers for the entire family, as God is the only One who is able to see any of us through life's most difficult circumstances. May the family be forever blessed.

Barbara's grandmother was my Uncle Ralph Wilson's second wife. Barbara would come to The Wilson reunion. She went to our church and was such a sweet soul. Years later I would see her at Greenville General when I was a student nurse and she would eat lunch with Robert. He was doing his internship there. Prayers for the family. They have suffered much tragedy, but GOD will redeem this situation and work this out for good.

Words cannot begin to express my feelings for this family. Dr. Lesslie was my boss for 32 years. I was a young rad tech student, at Charlotte Memorial when I first met his acquaintance. How was I to know I would work for him only 5 years later. What a blessing. He always made me laugh, with his many antics. What a jokester. I would tease Barbara when she would call Riverview, and tell her

she needed to tell him to come home. Aggravating him was my main goal for the day. He was always asking me: " Teresa, do you ever stop talking?" So many memories. My heart is so sad for the family. I love you all !!!!!!

It’s really hard to put into words what I have felt since hearing about my Dr. Lesslie. I saw him last Monday, 4/5 during a follow-up visit at the office. I can still see him in my mine’s eye and hope I’ll always see him in that way. Anything further from that, I simply can’t grasp it! My heart is broken for the family and can’t begin to feel the depth of grief and sorrow you must feel. I can say this, it’s a consolation knowing they knew and walked with Jesus as their closest friend, Lord and Savior. Knowing that, I will come to grips with the loss of my personal doctor and friend, but I believe it will take some time. Only God knows how much time is ours on this earth, but Because He Lives, We Can Face Tomorrow. May God give you His comfort, peace and strength throughout the coming days, weeks and months, as only He can.❤

I am an RN and I worked with Dr. Lesslie in the ER at Charlotte Memorial when he was a resident. He was a special doctor even then. He was patient and kind and smart and full of good humor. Many were the times he made us laugh after some crisis was over and we needed a lift of spirits. May he and his wife and grandchildren Rest In Peace.

Dear Lesslie family,
While it was a relatively brief time, your family was a special part of Good Shepherd Presbyterian in Charlotte (circa 1980-81). Many fond memories, including two little girls, dressed to the nines, coming forward for the children's message each Sunday. More importantly was, when your mom was expecting (Robbie?) as Christmas approached, there were complications and her doctor ordered bed rest. Your mom didn't know what to do, with cookies to be baked, decorations to be hung, etc, etc, etc. Afterwards, she said it was the most amazing Christmas ever - that the Lord showed her how to put her anxieties aside and trust that what had to get done would get done. (And it did.)
We hated when you left for Rock Hill, but we knew this special family had a calling...
We got to see your folks (and maybe a glimpse of one of you?) at Bonclarken twice since then.
So I can't say that we were close friends in the usual way. It's just that your folks made an impression on us, as I suspect they did with most everyone they touched.
'Heartbroken' is the only word when we read the news. For you to lose parents and two children is beyond understanding.
For you to write the words you shared with the community is a wonderful testimony to the your parents' teaching. Thank you.
Love in Christ,
Sonnie & John Wright
