Hanna Temkin Obituary

Temkin, Hanna
Aug 10, 1921 - Feb 7, 2019
Hanna Temkin passed away peacefully, on Feb. 7, with her family at her side. At 97 years old, she outlived many beloved family members and friends, including her son, Henryk, and husband, Gabriel. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 1pm at Sarasota Memorial Park.
Hanna was a Holocaust survivor. Despite the traumas of the Holocaust and of losing her son, Henryk, Hanna never complained about how unfair or how unjust life was; she wasn't a complainer. She never let herself be defined as a victim of circumstance. Hanna was an optimist in spite of - or perhaps because of - all that she had to endure. She always sought to live life to the fullest and on her terms. She earned a PhD in Philosophy in 1956 and worked as a university professor and author. She and Gabriel had two children, Henryk and Helena. After the family was expelled from communist Poland for being Jewish, they came to America, eventually settling in Canada. Hanna spent a year in Boston as a fellow at Harvard University's Russian Research Center. Hanna and Gabriel retired to Sarasota, FL where they spent many happy years, walking the beaches of Siesta Key.
Hanna/Mom/Buba is a role model for all those who come after her, she is a shining example of an amazing mother, grandmother and wife; a strong, fearless woman and a unique, exceptional human being.

A kind, smart and loving woman with a great laugh. Buba was a treasure trove of engaging stories and there was a lot to learn from her if you took the time to listen. She will be sorely missed. - Greg, Tali, Maya and Eli.
