On the 4th of July, I witnessed a sky spectacle unlike anything I'd seen before. I hadn't planned on watching fireworks or anything. But it was so amazing that I had to stop the car, get out and marvel. It wasn't just the fireworks, something special about the night sky with the slight waxing crescent moon and the birds flying around it. Magical, I thought, what a show! And then I got the news about aunt Barb. How appropriate. Barb will always be our Shining Star.
When I think of Beaver Dam, Holland, Big Bear Lake, and Zeeland, Michigan, my heart and mind are filled with warm memories of Tim and Barb who always welcomed me with genuine sincerity and generous kindness. I was came from a violent neighborhood and was traumatized as a child when my mother (Laura Ponstein) brought me to the farm.
Uncle Tim and Aunt Barb both embraced me as one of their children even though I was obviously different. Tim and Barb were both intuitive healers. Gentle in the way they spoke and nurturing in all their activities. Exploring the farm with Tim and Hollis was very therapeutic for me and Barb was not only a nurse but a teacher. Always giving me guidance and perspective. Her hugs were fortifying and her eyes lit up when she laughed. Over the years I can remember so many times when I was nervous or uncertain at the great family events. I'd look over at Barb and she had that familiar glow of happy recognition that gave you confidence. Plus, if there was something to giggle about, Barb had your back. I'll miss you Auntie and hearing your lovely voice. But you touched my life and gave me lessons that I carry with me daily. Bless your soul on your next journey. I'll see you in the shining stars.
And my deepest condolences to Uncle Tim, Jenni, Kathy, Robin and the rest of the family. May peace be with you.
Sincerely,
Erick Michael

Ken & Faith, My deepest sympathies to you in the passing of your dear sister. It is hard to lose a sibling. I just experienced this with the passing of Clare's younger brother, Bob Doornbos, in March. He also attended Beaverdam church so I'm sure Bob & Barb knew each other well.

Tim and family,
We are so very sorry for your loss. You have been so loving and kind to Barb. It was so much fun seeing you at Unity games. As you know we are having similar experiences now. May God wrap his arms of love around you and give you his comfort and peace.

I also worked at Haven Park and knew her. I worked in the Alzheimer's Unit for a lot of years. I also went to Unity Christian High School. I used my foster name at that time. M Corey Furbish

Barb was our neighbor on Nelson St. the year our youngest child was born. I remember her coming in to see me late on that Friday the 13th of Novemer 1970 when she got off duty before she went home. And we were invited to her and Tim's wedding. My sympathy to her loved ones.

So sorry to hear of Barb's passing, but comforted to know she is now with Jesus. I have many happy memories of our times together at Big Star Lake as kids. Cousin Ken Klaasen
