Shirley Jordan Obituary

JORDAN, SHIRLEY CRANWILL, 76, passed away at home on March 30, 2011. Shirley was born on April 11, 1934 in Pennsylvania but moved as a young child to Flint, Michigan, where she grew up on the campus of the Michigan School for the Deaf, moving to Bloomfield and then Montclair, NJ as a young teen. She graduated from Dickinson College and earned a master's degree from Columbia University's Teachers College. A talented professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Gallaudet University, she retired in 1989. For the past twenty-three years she resided in West River, Maryland, volunteering for Hospice of the Chesapeake and Rude Ranch Animal Rescue. Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerald M. (JJ) Jordan in 2008. Shirley loved cats, books, opera, good wine, good food and good friends–not necessarily in that order. She was an incredible friend to many and was loved greatly by everyone who knew her. Service private.

Shirley was a true friend. When I first moved moved to Maryland, she and J.J. were the first people to host us. I lived with them briefly before moving to Scranton and enjoyed every moment. She was a fantastic cook and the best hostess I have ever known.
