Jeanne Arceneaux Obituary

Jeanne Arceneaux

Jeanne Dolese Arceneaux, 92, a lifelong resident of Labadieville, passed away at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at her family home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Labadieville. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 8:45 a.m. Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with interment in the church mausoleum.

She is survived by two sons, Bob and Ken Arceneaux; two daughters, Bitsy Thomas and Lynda Hodnett; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Claire Safford; and her extensive family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Lynn V. Arceneaux; her eldest son, Lt. John Arceneaux, USAF; her parents, Eugene D. and Corinne Blanchard Dolese; two brothers, Dr. Eugene D. Dolese Jr., DDS, and Lt. Francis Dolese, U.S. Army; and two sisters, Lucille Gaudet and Mae Koenenn.

She graduated from Labadieville High School and Dominican College in New Orleans. She was a school teacher in Golden Meadow until her marriage in 1939.

She was a loving daughter and sister; and devoted wife and mother. She was quiet servant in her church and community and was the church organist for more than 60 years. She served on the Parish Council and was an Altar Society member for many years. Miss Johnny, as was affectionately known, was the only surviving Gold Star Mother in the community.

She was an extraordinary lady who shunned attention and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

The family wishes to thank the dedicated care givers who lovingly nursed our mother during the last months of her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Philomena Catholic Church Building Fund.

Landry's Funeral Home of Thibodaux is in charge of arrangements.
