Brandon Lepow Obituary

Brandon David Lepow
1983-2015
Brandon David Lepow, 32, of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully with his wife Theresa (Sena) Lepow by his side early in the morning of October 13, 2015, after a courageous battle with Leukemia. Brandon is survived by Theresa, his parents, Cindy and Howard Schmerin and Dr. Kenneth and Rossi Lepow, and his siblings, Jonathan and Emily Lepow, Andrea and Jon Paul Hoelscher, and Layne Schmerin. Brandon is also survived by numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, as well as close friends Adam, Mark, Andy, James, Michael, Bobby, Kenny, and Brian who were at his side throughout the journey, and finally, his and Theresa's beloved Wheaten Terrier, Penny Lane. Brandon attended Bellaire High School in Houston, TX, before graduating Summa Cum Laude from St. Edwards University in Austin, TX in 2005. In 2008, Brandon joined the campaign of then – Senator Barack Obama, traveling the country with the future president. After President Obama took office, Brandon began work at the White House, first in the Office of Scheduling and Advance, and later as Regional Communications Director in the Office of Communications. Brandon served the President in various capacities, including as a spokesperson and as a traveling aide. Among many responsibilities he would often take on, Brandon and his wife Theresa provided care and comfort to many of the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy during the President's visit to Newton, CT for the memorial service. In 2013, Brandon joined Facebook as a Policy and Communications Manager. On October 24, 2013, Brandon married his best friend and partner, Theresa in Houston, TX. Shortly before their wedding, Brandon had been diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a rare cancer, and decided to undergo treatment in his hometown of Houston. Following many rounds of treatment, Brandon went into remission, and he and Theresa moved to San Francisco to begin their lives together: working, exercising and spending time on the beach with Penny. Last winter, Brandon's cancer returned, and he and Theresa moved back to Houston for care. Brandon loved to play basketball and was known for his fondness for pranks, being an uncle, gracious humility and a kindness towards others that knew no bounds. He was particularly proud to serve the President at this dynamic point in history. And nothing brought him more joy and purpose than building a life with Theresa. Brandon's family is deeply grateful for the nurses, doctors, and medical professionals at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston for the exceptional care provided as he fought this disease. A celebration of Brandon's extraordinary life will be held Friday, October 16, 2015, at Congregation Beth Israel, 5600 N. Braeswood Blvd. Houston, TX, at 11:30AM. All are welcome. For donations in Brandon's name, please consider The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society http://www.lls.org or the Jewish Chaplaincy Program of Houston https://talon.jfshouston.org/giveonline.php. To honor those who continue the battle, Brandon asked friends and family to consider becoming a bone marrow donor through Be The Match http://bethematch.org/?gclid=CKWX84vGwsgCFVUTHwodhQkDkA.

Brandon was an extraordinary man and if I can convey one message to his family and Thersea today it is that his passing will not have been in vain. He has left us here to keep fighting and fuel use to find a better treatment and god willing a cure.

My heart goes out to Brandon's wife and family. Brandon was such a sweet, fun guy. We worked together years ago in Austin and I have so many great memories of him that still make me laugh. He's one of those people that when someone mentions his name, everyone has something good to say or has a funny story to share, even years later. He'll be missed.

Love and prayers to all who were loved and touched by Brandon. What an incredible man who did a lot of living and loving in his 32 years. I will always remember that awesome smile. I count it a blessing to have been his hygienist and friend for many years.
