Allen Boren Obituary

Allen Moore Boren
1934-2018
Allen Boren passed peacefully with his sons next to him on Wednesday 11/14/18. He is survived by his loving wife Ruby Lee of 63 years, his sons Greg and Jeff, and his four grandchildren Allen, Chris, Julia and Jack, along with many other relatives and friends. Allen Boren spent most of his life involved with High School and College athletics. Players and coaches were his passion, and in his own way, was always committed to providing direction in hopes of making the people he touched successful in not only sports, but in life. In 2015, the building at the north end of Klein Memorial Stadium was dedicated to him, along with Sonny Novak and Robert Young. Allen played football, baseball, track, and basketball at Carthage High School and later football and baseball at Sam Houston State University. After graduation, he started his coaching career as an assistant at Wharton High School in 1956 before moving on to Sweeny High School. In 1959, he landed his first head coaching job at Bellville High School where he had 2 district titles, one bi-district, and in 1960 played in one of the more legendary State final games in Texas football history. Later, he became the head football coach at Edna High School where he had 2 district titles and another big state final game in 1965. He then went to Humble High School where he had a district title. In 1972, he left Humble to become the head football coach at his alma mater Sam Houston State College for the 1972 and 73 seasons. After two years at SHSU, he resigned to become Director of Athletics in the Klein School District. During his 17 years at Klein, the district grew from one 4A high school to three 5A high schools (Klein, Klein Forest and Klein Oak) and the number of coaches grew from 23 to 126. Allen retired from Klein in 1991 to become Vice President of Sales at Douglas Protective Equipment, a company specializing in protective sports wear in Houston. He is a member of the following Halls of Honor: The Texas High School Coaches, Texas High School Athletic Directors, Sam Houston State Bearkats, Bellville High School Brahmas and the Carthage High School Bulldogs. A Memorial Celebration will be held in Spring Texas on Sunday, December 2nd, 2018, 12:00pm, at Hochzeit Hall, 427 Gentry St, Spring TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sam Houston State University Football, Note: In Memory of Allen Boren, and mailed to: SHSU Football – University Advancement, Box 2537, Huntsville, TX 77341.

Coach Boren was a hero of mine before we became good friends. Later we worked together and became even closer. The number of athlete's and coaches that he inspired mentored and are many.
We later worked together for many fun whereI loved his stories and his wisdom.
I´m miss his friendship so much.
