JD White Obituary

JD WHITE born in Sunset, Texas on February 9, 1926, recently died on February 5, 2005 of a cardiac arrest. His family and friends are deeply saddened by the passing of this exceptional man. JD was a graduate of Bowie High School in Bowie, Texas. He was stationed with the Navy on Iwojima during World War II, and later graduated from Rice University of Houston, Texas in 1951 where he was a valuable member of their basketball team. After graduation from Rice in 1951, JD joined American General Companies in Houston as a member of their Marketing Department. Following a series of promotions, he was elected Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of American General Fire and Casualty Company and National Standard Insurance Company. Upon his retirement in May of 1989, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of these same companies. Active in the insurance affairs for the state of Texas, JD served as a member and past Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Texas Insurance Advisory Association. He was Vice-Chairman of the Texas Catastrophe Property Insurance Association in Austin, Texas and served on the Board of Directors of the Texas Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association. He was also an officer on the Executive Committee of the Association of Fire and Casualty Companies in Texas. Following his retirement in 1989, JD and his wife Barbara Inman White moved from Houston to Schulenburg, Texas where they enjoyed ranching for several years. JD is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara, and their daughters Nancy Beckham, Paula Sanders Hollas, and Melissa Duncan of Schulenburg. Also grandchildren Paige Holt Revillard, M. Shane Hollas, J. Shannon Hollas, John David Duncan, Shane Andrew Hollas and Judd Hollas and 4 great-grandchildren, Lucie, Hugo, Jase, and Brynlee. He leaves as well many nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors, and associates who were touched by his intellect, advice, and generosity over the years. JD was the son of James D. White and Nora Mae Fain White of Bowie, Texas, now deceased. He is survived by two sisters Mozelle Henry and Sue Dorsey of Bowie, one brother S.A. White of Wichita Falls and deceased brother, David Ray White. Funeral services will be held on February 9 at the First Baptist Church of Schulenburg at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that remembrances be made to the National Cancer Institute Gift Fund www.cancer.gov.
