Sister Mary Siena Schmitt O.P.

SISTER MARY SIENA SCHMITT, O.P., was born February 18, 1930 in Riverside, CA and died Sunday, March 6, 2005. Sister entered the Dominican Sisters of Houston, Texas on August 31, 1947. Sister Siena began her ministry as a teacher in 1949. She taught in Port Arthur, Houston, Orange, TX and in California. Sister Siena was a pastoral minister in Zacapa, Guatemala from 1966-1978. After serving on the Houston Dominican General Council, Sister Siena was pastoral minister in Houston and then in Guatemala City. Prior to her illness, Sister Siena ministered with the Hispanic Community of the Olympic Peninsula in Poulsbo, WA. Sister Siena is the daughter of the late Aloysius and Frances England Schmitt. She is survived by her brothers, Bill and Jim Schmitt of Port Townsend, WA and her sister Betty Frost of Anchorage, AK. The cremated remains of Sister Siena will arrive at St. Dominic Villa at 4:00 pm, followed by the Vigil of Christian Burial at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 9, 2005. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 10, 2005 in the St. Dominic Villa Chapel, 6504 Almeda Road. Rite of Committal will follow at 1:00 pm at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations may be sent to the Dominican Sisters' Retirement Fund, 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, TX 77021-2072.
