Max and I first met in 1950, we were classmates and played freshman football at Columbia. He was the quarterback, and I was a second-string, maybe less offensive lineman. Later on in 1957 by sheer accident when we were both in the United States Marine Corps, he was a Company Commander and I was a Platoon Commander in the same company at Camp Pendleton, California. We did not have contact after that. Today, I read of his passing more than 8 years ago; Max was a serious, committed purposeful leader and he made sure those about him focused on the missions that had to be accomplished. He understood the importance of attention to details and gave his best to all he undertook. In many ways, even though we were only together for a relatively short period of time, he made positive impressions on my and my life. My belated deepest sympathies to Max's family and those about him. Joseph N. Muzio

You don't know me, but I lost my husband to pancreatic cancer 2008, after 2 years of surgery and therapy. We were married 53 years at the time. He tried hard to believe he would be okay and make the magic 5-year survival rate.
