M. Rose Obituary

M. Robert Rose
1940-2015
M. Robert Rose, 75, died peacefully in hospice care in Houston on December 21, 2015, following a brain injury sustained in a fall on October 30.
He leaves behind his devoted wife Jacquelyn Rose and loving friends and relatives. A host of close friends remember Robert as a gentleman, sportsman, oilman, and artist with a gift for creating friendship wherever he went. His parents Melville S. Rose and Jeanette Rose are deceased.
A third generation Texan, Robert was born in Dallas on February 14, 1940. He was educated at Culver Military Academy and received his B.B.A. from Southern Methodist University in 1962. Following graduation from SMU Robert ran the family manufacturing business in Dallas for a few years before selling the company. Early on he developed a love of polo and co-founded the Dallas Lone Oak Polo Club. Soon Robert was playing across the Southwest and in England. In 1972, he suffered a debilitating back injury while riding, prematurely ending his polo days. Robert developed an independent oil and gas exploration business, which took him to Denver and finally to Houston over 35 years ago. After retirement, Robert discovered his talent as an artist, endowing his paintings with the same enthusiasm for life as in all his endeavors. He studied at the Glassell School of Art at the Museum of Fine arts, Houston. His mixed media and pastel on paper works were recognized by critics and the art public for their unique blend of sophistication, impressionism, and folk motifs. Robert's works reside in several private collections in Texas, Louisiana, South Carolina, Colorado, and Georgia. His gracious style, quick humor and indomitable spirit never failed him in spite of a long struggle with Parkinson's disease.
In addition to his wife Jackie, her son Kelly Roberts and granddaughter Katy Roberts, both of Spring, Robert leaves his sister Ellen Rose of Los Angeles, a niece Molly Rose-Kuperman Elson and her husband Josh Elson, and great nieces Magnolia and Vienna Elson, also of Los Angeles.
The family requests that contributions in Robert's memory go to Trinity Episcopal Church, 1015 Holman, Houston, Texas 77004 or a charity of your choice.

Robert was a true gentleman in the finest Texas tradition. His warmth, intellect and outstanding sense of humor will be greatly missed by the Monday night dinner group that were privileged to have his company for many years.

Jackie I uploaded a couple photos I took of Robert when I was photographing his artwork. I have all those photos but so few of Robert himself. He was very lucky to have you in his life.
