Edward Mahar Obituary
1946-2017
Edward Joseph Mahar, born May 16, 1946 passed away on August 8, 2017. He was the son of William F. Mahar and Mary Mahar. He is predeceased by his parents. His father died in 1974. His mother passed away in 1967.
He graduated from Cathedral High School in Syracuse, NY. He went on to attend St. Gregory's College where he received an Associates Degree. He then went on to receive a Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma University in 1974. He graduated from Southern Houston Law School in 1977.
He practiced law for many years, primarily as a defense litigation attorney. He also did plaintiff's work and spent the later part of his career at the county attorney's office, in Harris County.
He is survived by his two sons; Edward Michael Mahar and Ian Joseph Mahar of Houston, Texas. A brother, William J. Mahar, Mechanicsburg, PA. A sister Maureen Swartz, Watertown, NY. And several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his successful law career, he was a prolific amateur boxer in Syracuse, NY in the 1960's; a former President of the Knights of Columbus of Houston and Eagles Club. He enjoyed reading, running and competitive road races, rooting for Oklahoma football and professional boxing. He was a charming and witty man, his greatest joy was his family and friends.
Services will commence at St. Anne's, on Wednesday, August 16, with a 9am viewing, followed by a funeral mass at 10am. A proper Irish Wake will be held at his dear friend Griff's Bar, Wednesday evening.

In 1983, I had the pleasure of working with Ed at a Houston law firm. Ed and Rob Roll were my bosses. I was their law clerk. Ed was always very kind to me. I consider him an excellent individual. I am grateful to the kindness he showed me. I am grateful for his excellent sense of humor. I respectfully pay tribute to Ed and wish his sons a long and healthy life. Ed was a member and avid supporter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians as well as the Houston Irish Lawyers association. Always a great guy to be with.
