John Neath Obituary
1951-2018
John Arthur Neath, Jr., passed away peacefully at his ranch in D'Hanis Texas on May 18, 2018. John was born in Houston Texas on July 12, 1951 to Jack and Beverly Neath.
John is survived by his mother Beverly Garret Haltom, sisters Ann Card and husband Charlie, and Betsy Adair and husband Gary. John is also survived by three daughters; Sarah Neath Mirelles and her husband Richard, Shannon Neath Shead, and Melissa Neath Gibson and husband Christopher. John also leaves behind grandchildren John (JR), Alexa, Mackenzie, and Jaxson Mirelles, Taylor Shead, Symon, Ayden, and Dellah Gibson. He is preceded in death by his grandparents J.A. (Jap) and Helen Neath, and Hickman and Bessie Garrett, also his father John Arthur Neath and step-father Colonel W. Scott Haltom.
John, also known as "Sonny" to his friends, attended Will Rogers Elementary, T.H. Rogers Junior High, Lamar High School and Sam Houston State University. Sonny was successful in his entrepreneurial endeavors, owning and operating multiple restaurants including Steamboat Springs and Sweet Mesquite. Most currently his interest was Sweet Mesquite Bakery Inc. with long-term business partner and friend, John Seyer. We would like to extend our love and special thanks to caregiver, Greg Pena.
Sonny's love for life was contagious, and he will be greatly missed. Until we meet again.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the All Saints Episcopal Church 607 Dulles Avenue, Stafford Texas, 77477.

Sonny was a kind and very good man. He and I were roommates and friends over 35 years ago. He was a good friend at a time when I really needed one. A matter of fact, I would have to say that sonny might have saved my life. I have not forgotten Sonny and never will.

John was an enjoyable neighbor his short time in Galveston (Terramar Beach). I enjoyed his many stories and pride about his family and past life, businesses, ventures, difficulties, and how he overcame and survived. He had a rich "nine lives."

My Sympathies to the Neath Family for your loss.
I was in Sonny's homeroom at Lamar and thought the world of him, a great guy. I have not seen him since one of the Lamar reunions back in the 90's, and then it was like no years had passed since our high school days. Great friends are like that.

Sonny was bigger than life. Such a wonderful spirit and he never met a stranger! I knew him well in High School and continued to see him at Sweet Mesquite in the Township in Missouri City. He will be dearly missed and my deepest condolences to the family.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Neath family. I have only fond and funny memories of Sonny, tons of them, that I will truly cherish. He was quite the commedian and such a kind and gentle teddy bear who was loved by all. RIP, sweet Sonny.
