Miren Zubizareta Obituary

Miren E. "Marian" Zubizareta
1924-2018
Miren (Marian) Zubizareta, 94 of Boise, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 18, 2018, surrounded by her daughters and family.
Marian was born April 27, 1924, in Jordan Valley, Oregon. She was the oldest of three children born to Felix and Rufina Eiguren, both from the Basque country. Marian grew up in Jordan Valley and Arock, Oregon, during the Great Depression. Her formative years were spent learning the importance of hard work and the value of the land they relied on as her mother cared for the children and father worked as a sheepherder in eastern Oregon.
After graduating from Jordan Valley High School in 1942, she moved to Boise to attend Links Business College. In that time, she met the love of her life Fermin Zubizareta.
In 1947, the two were married and settled down in Boise. Fermin and Marian's marriage was always a partnership. Whether it was raising their family, traveling, running a business or buying and selling real estate, they were always by each other's side.
Marian and Fermin opened two successful grocery stores in Boise—the Idaho Food King—on Broadway and Fairview. Marian and Fermin also started Associated Realty, selling property across Idaho. After retiring they became the proud land owners of Pierce Park Greens golf course, which was developed on the site of their first home and family farm.
Marian was also a founding member of the Basque Center and volunteered her time at the Basque Museum.
Aside from her family and attending our many games, events and activities, Marian enjoyed Boise State football, playing cards with friends, and cooking Basque food. Those who knew and loved her will remember Marian as a generous, loving wife, mother and "Amuma" (grandmother). We are blessed to have learned many lessons from our beloved Marian. The most significant and lasting is the importance of family.
Marian is survived by her sister Begona Raby; she leaves a legacy of two daughters: Virginia (Gerald Hensley) and Mary Ann (Tony English); five grandchildren: David (Sara), Michelle, Jason (Janene), Andrew and Matthew; four great-grandchildren: Gabby, Garrett, Logan and Bentley; one great-great grandson: Liam; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marian was preceded in death by her loving husband Fermin, parents, brother Inaki and infant daughter Patricia.
Please join family and friends for a viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Drive in Garden City. A Rosary will be held for Marian immediately following the viewing at 7 p.m. at Bowman. Funeral Services will be Friday, October 26, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 2612 W. State Street. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery.

Psalm 90:10 says that the days of our years are 70 years, And if because of special mightiness they are 80 years.
May the memories of the wonderful times you shared together bring a smile and joy in your heart.

When I was teaching at Pierce Park School many years ago, this fine lady was always so supportive and helpful. Her daughter, Virginia, was one of my students. Although I am quite old now (101 in Dec.), I still have fond memories of those years. May God give you girls and families peace and comfort at this difficult time.
