George R. Reller

Indianapolis - George R. Reller, 94 years old, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 9 at Hoosier Village retirement community, Indianapolis, Indiana. George attended Swarthmore College until called to active duty in 1943 where he served with Company C 1st Battalion 410th Infantry Regiment in Rhineland Central Europe and was decorated with two bronze stars and a Purple Heart medal. Following his honorable discharge in 1946 he enrolled in Earlham College where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in 1949. He earned his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1952 and was admitted to the Indiana state bar in 1952.

He served as a judge of the Richmond city court from 1953 to 1955. He was a partner in the law firm of Reller Mendenhall Kleinknecht where he enjoyed the practice of law with his brother and father. For over 30 years George served as trustee on the board of Reid Hospital and for 19 years was the board's chairman. George also served for nine years on the Earlham College Board of trustees and for over two decades as the college's legal counsel and in 2005 received the college's outstanding alumnus award. George was also a member of First Friends Meeting.

George was an avid golfer and played with distinction on his high school and college golf teams and was a lifelong member of Forest Hills Country Club.

George is survived by his daughters Amy Coleman and Elizabeth Wallingford both of Boise, Idaho, his sons Ross Reller and John Reller, both of Indianapolis,Daughter in law Rita Reller, and sons in law Brian Wallingford and Chandler Coleman, Grandchildren, Zach and Jake Reller, Ashley Wolski, Abbey Linsk, Amanda McCarthy, Scott Wallingford, Gregory Wallingford, Finnian and Camilla Coleman. He is also survived by nieces Anne Chegar, Nancy Reller and nephew Bill Warrick. George was predeceased by his wife Janet Reller in 2012 brother William, sisters Gretchen Doolittle, and Elizabeth Warrick and his parents Will and Nina.

A private celebration of life will be held for members of the family at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to Earlham College, Earlham fund 801 National Rd. W., Richmond, IN 47374 and Reid Health Foundation, 1100 Reid Parkway, Richmond Indiana. 47374.

To George's family & friends: I spent 7 years a George's law from 1969 to 1976 and had nothing but the greatest respect for George Reller. His passing is a loss to all in Wayne County
