Joseph Carney Obituary
89, of Indianapolis, passed away on August 31, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on July 8, 1928 in Greensburg, IN, he graduated from DePauw University ('50) and Harvard Law School ('53). Joe practiced law at Baker and Daniels in Indianapolis for many years. He was active in the fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, Northwood Christian Church, and the Parkinson's Awareness Association of Central Indiana.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Carney, and survived by his four children: Elizabeth (George), Jay (Beth), Julia, and Sarah (Nathan), and his eleven grandchildren: Liesl (Adam), Hayden, and Faith Carney, Joseph (Anna), Sarah Beth, Rebecca, and Benjamin Comfort, and Jennifer, Rachael, Holly, and Heather Kempfer.
Visitation will be held at Flanner and Buchanan - Broad Ripple on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be celebrated at Northwood Christian Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, with a one hour visitation prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: PAACI or Sandra Eskenazi Center for Brain Care Innovation, (http://eskenazihealthfoundation.org ).

Hearing of Joseph's passing brought to mind Pericles' description of death:
What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others.
He wove his special sweetness into my life and I feel honored to have known him. To have had him as a student in my tai chi class for over two years was a gift.
