Mary Sigward Obituary
Mary Ann Sigward 82, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 1, 2010 following her courageous 23-year battle with breast cancer. Mary Ann was born and raised in Indianapolis, and was the daughter of George J. and Edith K. Adrian. She attended St. Roch's School and St. Mary Academy prior to enrolling at Purdue University from which she graduated in 1950 with a B.S. Degree in Bacteriology. While at Purdue, Mary Ann was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Following her graduation from Purdue, Mary Ann worked as a research assistant at Eli Lilly & Co. After raising her three sons, she returned to school at Marian College to prepare for a teaching career in elementary education. Subsequently, Mary Ann taught the 3rd and 4th Grades for many years at St. Andrew the Apostle Grade School. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church for 40 years. She also was a long-standing member of Delta Theta Tau philanthropic sorority. She and her husband were long-serving members of The Irvington Dancing Club and the Riviera Club. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William J. Sigward; her three sons, William J. Sigward, Jr., David Adrian Sigward, and Kevin L. Sigward; her two daughters-in-law, Lise M. Sigward and Cherie G. Sigward; by her two brothers and two sisters, George A. Adrian, Sr. Paulita Adrian, Irene McDuff, and Paul F. Adrian; and by her five grandchildren: Daniel, Bryan, Mary, Stephen and Peter Sigward. The family wishes to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts and care provided by Dr. Andrew Greenspan, Dr. Nini Bermudas-Webb, and Dr. Irene Minor and their magnificent staff at the Central Indiana Cancer Centers as well as the caring and dedicated staff at Community Hospital North. Visitation will held on Tuesday, May 4th, from 10:00 am - 12 Noon at St. Matthew Catholic Church. The visitation will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 Noon at St. Matthew. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her name to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation, or to St. Matthew Catholic Church. Services entrusted to Feeney-Hornak Mortuary.
