Dear Greg, Kathy, Traci, Rob and Molly,
I was so sorry to hear that Jean had passed away. Thank you Greg for telling me. Please let me share one of my favorite memories of this incredibly dear sweet woman.
Jean and I became friends many years ago in Fort Wayne, IN before you all moved to Indianapolis. She was so easy to be around and loved to laugh. She wanted to see one of her friends in Tarpon Springs, it might have involved delivery something to this friend. I cannot remember. But I do remember having such a good time. So off we went on a road trip to Florida. We drove almost straight though, we were very young and who needs sleep anyway? Late at night we were eating the snacks we had packed. I wanted Jean to try this cucumber dip I had made bc it was delicious. But she was driving so she said, ”let me taste it.” I stuck my finger in the dip and held it up so she could lick it off. But instead of licking it off my finger, she bit the end of my finger thinking it was a chip. I yelled, she spit and we both laughed so hard we were crying. There were many other stories of the trip but that scene is my absolute favorite. Tarpon Springs was a magical place, or so it seemed to me then. The Greek sponge divers in all their gear at the sponge docks, the amazing food, thousands and thousands of sponges... I recently visited Tarpon Springs and although still lovely seemed to have lost a bit of that quaint charm from years ago. Still I was overcome with the memories of our visit there years ago. Hearing Jean laughing and seeing her smiling face in my minds eye made me smile. She was a very special lady and will live on through her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
