I can't believe it has already been a year since the tragic loss of Mr. Glatz. He and his family continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Just a little story I thought I would share as my little family and I have been customers of Glatz Jewelers here in Jamison PA over the past several years since we moved up here from Northeast Philly: I have a 14k gold toe ring with a dangling heart on it. Back in spring 2010 the loop that held the heart on was accidentally stretched and broke and the little heart charm fell off. I was lucky in that I noticed and didn't lose the little heart. I didn't think the ring could be fixed- I thought that it couldn't be salvaged. I figured it couldn't hurt to ask, so I took it over to Glatz Jewlers (Jamison PA) and asked about it. I was told "we'll see what we can do." Well, when I got it back, it had a nice, thick, sturdy loop with the heart dangling from it. I was shocked by the beautiful workmanship and that it could have been repaired when I thought there was no way it could have been. I was overjoyed because this little toe ring is very special to me- my uncle gave it to me.
I'm so thankful that I can wear it and enjoy it, and I have Mr. Glatz to thank for that. Every time I look at that little toe ring, I think of Mr.Glatz and how amazing he was at what he did. I also think about all of the beautiful things I have read and heard about him- what a kind gentleman he was and how loved and respected he was by so many. I never did have the pleasure of meeting him as I have only dealt with the ladies at the shop, but I'm sure I would have appreciated him had I had the opportunity to get to know him. May he rest in peace and may his family know that we are still thinking about him and them and wishing them love, comfort and peace.
Respectfully, Joy S.

Please accept our sincere condolences on the untimely death of Bill. He was an exceptional craftsman - designing insignia rings for our children and fixing what we thought was unfixable and all with a smile, but most of all his greatest asset was being a gentleman. May you find comfort and strength in knowing he was so highly regarded.
To Maggie and Eric - you're in our thoughts.

To the Glatz family...my husband Bud Didyoung was a childhood friend of Billy's and told me many stories about the kindness of the Glatz family to he and his mother, Minerva Didyoung. My husband died this past August and I know how hurt he would have been to hear about Bill's passing. Bill made a diamond and emerald ring for my mother-in-law around 1976 and she left it to me in her will. I will always treasure it for Mrs. Didyoung and Bud thought so highly of the Glatz family. My deepest condolences on your loss.

Dear Donna and Family,
Words cannot express the loss and heartfelt sadness that we feel. You, along with Maggie and Eric, are in our thoughts and prayers.
During our many visits to the store, it was fun to chat and catch up with Bill, Maggie and Eric. I was always bringing in my watches for batteries and getting jewelry repaired. With each trip, Bill or Eric would check the prongs on my rings and clean them for me.
It's been such a pleasure doing business with your family for over 32 years. To us, Glatz Jewelers stands for quality, honesty and integrity served with kindness, caring and friendship. And, of course, the face behind the name is Bill.

To Maggie and Eric, thinking of you everyday and hoping you both are doing the best you can under these horrific circumstances. My jewelry buying days are over, if i cant get it at Glatz and not getting it anywhere. Thank you so much for many years of beautiful memories. RIP Bill, my friend.

May God be with you through this terrible tragedy. The entire Lawndale neighborhood has suffered a great loss. I had the honor of serving Mr. Glatz at the bank where I worked and took care to see that he was treated in the way he also treated me when a customer in his store. I don't think I ever walked down the avenue when he was outside without him asking how I was or getting a friendly wave. It is a true measure of the man to see the outpouring of love our community has for him. With Mr. Glatz goes the last of that feeling of community the "avenue" had left. You all will be in our families prayers.

Dear Donna & Family,
I lived in Lawncrest most of my life & was simply devastated by your tragic, senseless loss. Your store on Rising Sun Avenue was the ONLY jeweler that my parents trusted & was the ONLY jeweler that I trusted as well. To the Glatz Family,
I am so very sorry for your terrible loss.
"Mr. Glatz" as I always referred to him, will be so terribly missed. He provided such a service to the Lawndale community. Recently a coworker asked for a recommendation for a jeweler where she could take heirloom pieces for sizing and repair, not having to worry about the safety of her items. Myself and another coworker both recommended Glatz's (a little jewelry store on Rising Sun Avenue that did beautiful work at a reasonable price and had the greatest owner). Needless to say, she was thrilled with his work and honesty- when he told her that he would not touch her grandmother's wedding band as it would destroy the integrity of the ring.
My family shopped at Glatz's for what seemed like forever. My mother finally got a diamond ring after 30 years of marriage and 8 children-Mr. Glatz made that ring. He cut her wedding band off when it would not come off due to her swelling in her eighth pregnany-he also repaired it so beautifully that you would never know it had been cut.
Please know that your family has touched so many lives in the community and Mr. Glatz will be missed for so many reasons. I hope that your precious memories will carry you through this very sad time.

Our deepest condolences to the Glatz Family. Mr. Glatz was such a kind and polite man. Although its been a number of years since we last saw him, he played a part in our lives. When I proposed to my wife, Mr. Glatz helped me pick the perfect engangement ring as well as our wedding rings. Cherished memories to this day. God Bless.
October 25, 2010
many years ago, working at Cheltenham Federal Savings and Loan, Mr Glatz, would always warmly welcome us young "bankers" as we came in to browse and dream of the jewels we would someday own. somedays,we'd be in there so long, he'd have to remind us that 'lunch was almost over girls!'. Mr Glatz was a fixture on the Avenue - if the awning was lowered, all was right with the world.
God Bless you dear man, the Avenue will be forever changed with your senseless and tragic loss.
May God keep your family in his comfort as they come to grips with your passing. And may the memories you gave them sustain them until you all meet again.
God Bless you all.

I got my first gold chain at your store. He made a ring for my Dad, out of some of the jewelry my Mom left us. I was in there not long ago to cash in my gold. We talked about the shore, and he gave all 3 of my kids lolli-pops. He said what beautiful kids I had and told me to enjoy this time,as it goes so fast. He was a wonderful, warm, kind, caring person and a trustworthy jeweler. His passing is senseless and tragic. Mrs. Glatz,
Our hearts go out to you and the family at this time and in the days ahead. Your husband as you know was a wonderful, kind, outgoing, and endearing person. Both Annette and I are honored to have known Mr. Glatz for over 20+ years both as a customer and acquaintance. Growing up whenever I came in he said… John what’ll it be today? He always knew what I was there for and had the time to chat. When we were planning our wedding we both know where we wanted to go. Only the best we said! He always knew us by name and amazingly later on our three kids as well. There's a void in your world and community now but please remember he's always looking down on all of you. He was and will always be that type of person that others in the world should be modeled after!!! We’ll miss him greatly!
May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
Thank you Mr. Glatz for a wonderful friendship all these years.
You are and will always be simply the best!!

I grew up in Lawndale and I have very warm memories of going into Glatz jewelry store with my mother and sister and looking at all of the pretty jewelry. Bill and his father were always pleasant and most times did our jewelry repair in minutes. Being of German descent,I was always fascinated by the beautiful imported Cuckoo clocks and steins. Even as a child I was always treated kindly by everyone in the store. Although I no longer live in the neighborhood, I would still make the drive to Glatz for all of my jewelry needs because I knew that I could trust their honesty. Bill will be terribly missed. My deepest sympathies to the Glatz family. I have been a customer for the past 5 years. I seen Mr. Glatz just last week. As always he greeted me with a Hello and his contagious smile. He was helping me pick out my wedding jewelry and noticed my ring needed cleaning. As I help my daughter in my arms I asked him how much with a $10.00 in my hand. He replied with a smile, "You take that money and buy something for the baby". It bring me to tears to know such a warm, kind hearted man was taken with no reason. He will be greatly missed. I am so sorry for your loss. I grew up in Lawndale and often visited the store with my mother whenever we needed "a special gift for a special person." I have lovely jewelry from my First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Junior and Senior Prom. When I became engaged I insisted that we get our wedding bands from Glatz's. Being of Irish decent, we purchased the Claddagh wedding bands. I remember asking if a diamond could be placed in the heart. Bill looked at me with his warm smile and said "of course, every woman should have a diamond". Bill made a beautiful ring for me with our initials and wedding date engraved inside. When I heard of this horrible tragedy, I cried and looked at my wedding band remembering that day so vividly. Bill was a great person who cared for his customers and members of the community. He will be remembered in my thoughts and prayers.

Never did I enter your store in Lawncrest without instantly feeling right at home. Bill would come out from the back room to ask about my son and husband and how the band was doing. You would share a story with me about your children or a vacation, and I knew that I and all your customers were family. Yes, I was right at home, your other home. I choose to remember Bill always as the handsome, gentleman who filled the store with a kindness more precious than any gem he ever sold.

Words cannot express our sorrow and heartfelt loss. My wife and I have purchased jewelry from Bill for thirty years+. We are also Waretown, NJ boaters. Whenever I was in the store, we would always discuss the fishing reports, boating activities on Barnegat Bay, and business (in general). Our prayers & condolences to the Glatz Family. Bill will be missed.

I am a long time customer. My grandmom took me to Glatz as a little girl. Thats where i started my love of jewelry. I am devastated, part of me died too. I will now wear every piece i bought over many years as a honor and a tribute to Bill and Maggie and Eric. Gonna miss going there every saturday. Thank you for everything over the years. I will miss you forever. Bill, rest in piece. You will be missed so much. My heart is broken.

Bill
We were friends at Lawndale school as kids. I have our 6th grade class picture. You were always a quiet, nice humble guy even when were kids.
You will be missed!
