Michael was a great guy. Our family wears many a jewelry piece Michael sold us & he always gave us a great deal. I'll always remember him.

October 19, 2013

I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to write this. I still can't believe that Mike is gone. I found out about his passing last year when I called the store right before Thanksgiving. I wanted to speak with Mike about a Xmas gift for my husband. I still can't get over the shock when I heard the news, even now a year later. I first met Mike when he worked at LaPreste & Borio,"s. That was about 48 years ago. I went to the jewelers with my parents I was about 13. I think I even had developed a young teenage girl crush on him. He was so tall and handsome. Mike used to stop at my Dad's bar on the way home from work and that is how they met. It was Nick's Bar at 62nd and Market. My parents became customers and so did I. Every important and not so important piece of jewelry came from Mike whether La Preste & Borio, Govbergs or Lauria"s. My engagement diamond came from Mike and every other diamond since. I would go into the store not exactly knowing what I wanted, but Mike could read my mind and either come up with something or design it. He was not only an artist but a true genius. When my husband was at a loss for a gift he would say "Let's go see Mike, the jeweler." This is how we always referred to him. My kids always knew him as Mike the jeweler. We always trusted Mike without a single doubt. At 20 yrs. I went with my Dad and my then fiancé to purchase my diamond engagement ring. He taught us both how to look through the little glass to check for a good diamond versus a flawed one. He didn't have to do that, but he took the time. I never forgot that. I always thought that when the time came my son and daughter would go to Mike for engagement rings. I can't believe that he won't be there. The store won't be the same without him. I know the first time that I will go in there I will probably just break down. Mike wasn't just a jeweler to me he was also my last link to my dad. He always had some story to tell about him. I will so miss that, but every time I look at my beautiful rings that Mike designed, I will think very fondly of all the wonderful years of knowing that sweet man with the dry sense of humor.
Please accept our deepest sympathy on your great loss and our sincerest wishes that Mike's dream of Lauria's will continue on.

Dear Rosemarie & family,

We just learned of Michael's passing today. Our entire family is saddened by this news. I met Michael almost 40 years ago when he worked for Govberg's. Since then, my entire family and some friends have considered him the only jeweler we could trust without hesitation. He was the sweetest man and he was so very proud of his family. Having his family work alongside of him was pure joy for Michael. We will all miss him and our hearts and prayers go out to all of you. He will be deeply missed and we will always remember him as a loving and honorable man devoted both to his family and his trade.

Rosemarie,

I first met Mike 40 years ago when he worked for Govberg and I worked for Don Greene on Sansom St. Later, when I became a broker for Dean Witter, Mike became my client. He was a very nice guy and always a gentleman. He had a dry sense of humor that i shared. I guess that is why we got along so well, but then again, who didn't get along with him. He was also always impeccably dressed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. A truly nice man has left us too soon. May he rest in peace.

Please accept my condolences for your great loss. I met Michael over 30 years ago and he has helped us with some lovely jewelry since that time. He even sent pieces down to North Carolina when I could not get to Phili. Whenever I was in Phili I would always stop in to say hello. He was a kind honest and loving man who I have great respect for. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

Our family sends heartfelt condolences on the loss of your Husband, Father and Grandfather. Mike was wonderful to deal with and always so helpful.
On my wrist are two beautiful diamond and sapphire bracelets that my late husband had bought for me from Mike and now when I look at them I will see Mike"s smiling face.
Our two boys got their wives their engagement and wedding rings and my daughter's husband bought their rings from Mike also.
We all have wonderful memories of how kind and wonderful he was.
My daughter, Lauren, was spoiled by her Dad by their excursion to JUST LOOK, but there was always a little black or red box that came home.
Our entire famly hope that your love and faith will help you with your loss.

To the entire Lauria family, please accept my deepest condolences. Mike has been a friend since 1979 when I first was introduced to him by my mentor, Dick Jakuboski. Without any doubt, Mike Lauria was a role model to everyone - showing by example the right way to live, the right way to do business, and the right way to treat everyone. I have never met anyone who exemplified kindness, patience, & integrity more than Mike. It is a very sad day for all, and it is heartbreaking to hear. Please accept my sincerest sympathy in your loss. Mike, how's the view from way up there?

I have so many wonderful memories of Mike and our two families sharing so many of them together. Mike was always smiling and making us kids laugh, to the point were all 5 of us got silly nicknames. Over 30+ yrs later I was the only one who's name stuck..."Krista Kult Lighting Bolt" and it will live on through Tara since she also never stopped calling me "Krista Kult", it is a name I will cheerish forever. I remember that we all got to see "ET" the movie before it was in the theaters, along with so many other movies thanks to his "contacts". Christmas Eves spent together, vacations & sunday's going to Dairy Queen with just our dad's and their girls. A great memory was Mike, Rose & Tara at my College graduation when they suprised me..what a great gift that was for them to be there for me. Mike was a loving man with a huge heart and I am proud to call him my Uncle. He will always be in my heart and never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. I love you all.

To The Lauria Family,

I knew Mike from days gone by.....when my folks were customers at Govberg's. I remember when Mike worked for Irv he designed a beautiful and special necklace in memory of my grandmother when she passed.....with just the few dollars that was left to me. He was always so kind and patient with customers whether it was a small or large sentimental purchase. Mike was a perfectionist when it came to quality and someone you can trust. He recently has been working with my husband and I over the past several weeks. I was looking for a particular diamond ring mounting and he found it.

As a Husband, Father, Father-In-Law, Grandfather and Friend Michael Lauria was truly a GEM! Now, every time I glance at my ring I will think of Mike the GEM that he was!

We are all heart broken today. May the great memories you all shared help you through this most difficult time.

RIP Mike. You will be greatly missed.

With Our Deepest Sympathy,

To the Lauria Family,
Our hearts were broken this morning upon reading of the passing of Michael. Michael was our family jeweler,a first class business man, and human being. Michael treated us as more than customers;every time we went into his shop he proudly had on display pictures of his family, especially his grandchildren. He picked out the best of the best; he had to be satisfied first, before anything was ever shown to my wife. My sons got their engagement and wedding rings from Michael. My mother has a tradition - when her grandchildren graduated 8th grade they earned a trip to Lauria's to have a ring made (she has 36 grandchildren). Our thoughts and prayers go out to Michael's family. May you find strength and comfort in keeping Michael's spirit alive in your minds and hearts.
Sincerely,

sue Maguire
