Ernest Manuel Souza A Resident of San Leandro since 1963 Ernest Manuel Souza entered peacefully into rest in San Leandro on June 13, 2010. He was 89 years old. Ernest was born in "Jingletown" Oakland, on December 9, 1920, to Portuguese immigrants who came from the island of Madeira. He had served proudly in the U.S. Army overseas and participated in the Normandy Invasion. Ernest was a member of the American Legion, Post #117 for many years. He had also retired from the Teamsters Union as an organizer. In earlier years, he loved to fish with his brother, but most importantly he loved spending time with his family. He will truly be missed by many. Ernest is survived by his loving children, Ernestine Moir, Ernest (Janet) Souza and Kenneth Souza. He will truly be remembered by his grandchildren, Michael, Eric, Lisa and Paul, along with 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dolores in 2006 as well as his son in law, Alex in 2006. The family wishes to thank Dr. Al-Bander, his nephralogist, for the excellent care he provided the last 16 years; Sue and Ed Maile and family, the attentive caretakers who looked after him in his own home; the devoted staff at San Leandro Hospital, San Leandro HealthCare and RAI Dialysis Center in San Leandro. Visitation for Ernest will be on Friday from 9 to 11 am at Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. A graveside service will be held on Friday at 11:30 am at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity. I remeber him when I was young always so happy and full of life along with his wife, when I use to see them at Uncle Louies and Auntie Lavernes house. May God Bless him and his family.
