Norman Lizzul Obituary

Norman Lizzul Norman Lizzul, 78, of Esperance, NY left this world on November 26, 2015. He passed peacefully in his home on Thanksgiving Day surrounded by his family after a 6 month battle with cancer. A first generation American he was born to immigrant parents in Hoboken, NJ on November 11, 1937. Losing both parents at a very young age he was raised by his extended family before joining the US Air Force at 17. He served as an air traffic controller from 1955-1958 and that set the foundation for a distinguished 37 year civil service career with the Federal Aviation Administration, from which he retired in 1994. He married his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Elizabeth DeAngelo, in 1959. They met while he was transitioning from military to civil service and working in the steel mills of Pittsburgh, PA. Shortly thereafter they settled on Long Island, NY to raise two sons. He was a man of many talents, interests and skills. Self sufficient, and with a keen intellect he pursued many interests. He was an adept outdoorsman who hunted, fished, and raised hunting beagles throughout his life. Inheriting skills from his immigrant father he was an accomplished carpenter. Early in life he developed an affection for life on the farm and this led him in 1978 to move his family to upstate NY where he maintained a 20 acre farm with livestock while continuing his career in the FAA. He received a Bachelor's Degree in the 1970's and in conversation he displayed insight and enthusiasm across a broad range of subjects. He was a good man, good father and will be greatly missed and remembered fondly by those fortunate to have known him. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Ada Karinja. In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, He is survived by his two sons and their families: Norman Lizzul and his spouse Suzanne of Wilmington, Delaware, and John Lizzul, his spouse Patricia Lociciro and two beloved grandchildren Julianna and Jack of Islip, New York. Funeral services will private.
