Helen Brown Obituary

Helen L. (Hamilton) Brown, 95

Helen L. (Hamilton) Brown was born July 11, 1917, in Lafayette, and passed away quietly Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at Mulberry Health and Retirement in Mulberry. She was the daughter of the late Moses M. and Zula A. (Armstrong) Hamilton.

On February 12, 1944, Helen married the love of her life, Theran Brown, and thus began their long and amazing life together. Never were there two people more deeply in love and devoted to one another. They brought out the absolute best in each other, and were kind and considerate to each other always. When asked what their secret was, Theran stated, "She was simply the best". Their love was a shining example of what genuine love really means.

Early in life Helen worked as a seamstress doing upholstery work and later would use those skills to recover furniture and make curtains for their home and sew many, many outfits for her children. Helen bowled in Delphi, for many years for the team they would name "The Delphinians" and enjoyed laughing with the gals. Helen and "Brownie" were members of the Battle Ground Saddle Club for many years, showing horses and riding on trail rides, they even rode with several friends on a 100-mile trail ride. Fishing in Canada was always looked forward to, as was the fish they would bring home to share with their children. Helen and Brownie would later take several trips to Florida, staying for the winter. When in Yellowstone National Park, the grandkids were all invited to fly, 2 at a time, to Yellowstone Park where they would stay for a week and bring home memories that would last a lifetime. Helen and Brownie raised hogs, sheep, cattle and chickens while canning and butchering what they grew and raised.

Helen is survived by her husband; a brother, Gordon Hamilton (wife, Joyce); daughter Sandy Collier (husband, Dave), both of Lafayette, and son Dick Brown (wife, Peggy) of Remington. Grandchildren, Melinda (Collier) Bond, Bob Collier (wife, Kristi), both of Lafayette, Michele (Kipp) Everett (husband, Mike), Whitney Brown, and Misty, Amanda, Dallas and Tony St. John; great-grandchildren, Jordan Bond, Chloe Bond-Latia, Kiersten and Kerry Collier, Kyle Hamilton, Wesley and Lucas Everett, Kirk (wife, Krystin), Evan and Stephanie Wolf, Hanna and Abraham Kipp, and Andrew Smith; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Morris M. and Jess M. Hamilton, sisters, Mildred (Rae) and Marge (Taylor); a daughter Joanne (Brown) Kipp; granddaughter, Tamerlyn (Brown) Schockey (husband, Rod); and great-grandsons, Jeremiah and Zachary Smith, sons of Tamerlyn (Brown) Schockey.

Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service Monday at 10 a.m., at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care. Share memories and condolences online at www.hippensteelfuneralservice.com.

So sorry to hear of Helen's passing. Reading her obituary reminded me of the wonderful times that the Saddle Club members enjoyed at the farm that Helen and Brownie were kind enough to share with us.
