Nancy Kriebel Obituary

Nancy Kriebel

Nancy Adeline Swenson Kriebel died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at home in Brookston after battling cancer. She was 80.

She was born Feb. 2, 1933, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Sigurd and Gladys (Sartain) Swenson.

She graduated from Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas. She earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Tulane University in New Orleans. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa.

She married Robert C. Kriebel, a classmate at Tulane, on March 4, 1956, in Port Arthur, Texas. He survives.

She moved to Lafayette in 1956 and raised a family there. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Lafayette, the Master Gardeners and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was an avid gardener. She enjoyed creating garden art, glass work projects, bottle trees and an assortment of crafts. Her Christmas trees were legendary. She liked crossword puzzles and the Chicago Cubs, but not as much as she loved the Dallas Cowboys. You had to be on your game to have a chance against her at croquet or ping pong. But she was really in her element on Sunday afternoons during the NFL season, when family and friends would come to the house for lunch, football and hikes to Wildcat Creek.

Surviving with her husband are children Robert S. (Sig) Kriebel of Brookston (wife, Mary); D. Carol Bangert of Lafayette (husband, Dave); Laura B. Fuller of Nazareth, Pa. (husband, Mark) and Thomas A. Kriebel of Lafayette (wife, Ann); a son-in-law, Alan Goodnight of Wichita, Kansas; and 12 grandchildren, Jarrett and Hannah Fuller; Joelle, Nathan, Liana and Sam Kriebel; Carmen, Ben and Jillian Kriebel; Olivia Bangert; and Cara and Chandler Goodnight. She was preceded in death by daughter Terry A. Goodnight.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 1526 S. 18th St., in Lafayette. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tree Lafayette. Envelopes will be available at the church. You may light a candle of hope in remembrance, leave condolences and view Nancy's tribute video by visiting www.fisherfuneralchapel.com.

So sad to hear this news. When my family moved to Lafayette in the early 60's, the Kriebel Family lived across the street. Nancy was over the 1st morning laden with home-baked goodies and welcoming us to the neighborhood. A wonderful lady!!! Rest in peace....

How could I not remember the great T-Ball games, in their back yard in the 70's. I don't think Mrs. Kriebel missed one T-Ball game as the pitcher.

Thanks for being a part of my happy childhood.

Rest in peace angel!!

Dear Kriebel Family,
We send our deepest sympathy to your family on your lost. Nancy was such a warm person and a great host for all of us neighborhood kids who gathered in the Kriebel's backyard in the summers to play croquet, whiffle ball, or any other games that we played.

Nancy was always so encouraging to me when ever we had a conversation.

Our prayers are with your family.

Love,

Steve Haby and all the Haby Family
