Howard Benson Propst

1923 - 2018

Howard Benson Propst, 95, of Osprey, Florida, passed away Sept. 1, 2018 with his wife and daughters at his side. Howard was born in 1923, on the family ranch in Merino, Colorado. He married Roberta Hope Lascelles on Nov. 25, 1949. He helped manage the ranch, was a teacher and coach, and served 2 terms in the Colorado General Assembly before entering politics full time in 1962, serving as Executive Assistant to Governor John Love and then as Colorado Republican Chairman. In 1968, he joined his brother working on innovative projects in Michigan and the South. In 1977, he launched 2 businesses in Florida and served as Clay Co. Republican Chairman. He traveled America speaking on the value of freedom in his beloved country. From 1981 to 1991 he served as Legislative Director and later Chief of Staff for Sen. William Armstrong in Washington DC. In 1994, he married Llwana Flora Peacock and moved to Florida. He is survived by his wife, Llwana, his sister, Virginia Ransom, daughters Rebecah Propst, Lorre (Kert) McKeone, Heather Ross; Llwana's children, Luther (Julie) Peacock, Bill (Elba) Peacock, Sherri (Antoine) Rebois; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Grace Propst, his first wife, Roberta, and brothers, Robert and Keith Propst. A memorial service will be held Sept. 29 at 11:00 a.m. at 1st Presbyterian Church in Sterling, CO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Foundation or Colorado Christian University.
