Wilbur Chadwick Obituary

Wilbur M. Chadwick, 76, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009, at his home in Union, Maine, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 12, 1932, in Port Clyde, Maine, the son of the late Merrill and Elizabeth S. Chadwick. He was a resident of Connecticut for over 40 years, and was employed at Parson's Diamond Products of West Hartford. In 1993 he opened his own company, Custom Diamond Tool Inc., and later, Applied Superabrasives Inc., in East Windsor. Will's claim to fame was being on the March 1946 cover of the Saturday Evening Post with his grandfather. He was an amateur ham radio operator with the call sign, "WC1W." He held high offices and memberships in the Washington Social Club, Washington L.O.L. 117, Friendship Lodge 145 AF & AM, Temple Chapter 53 O.E.S., British American Club, South Methodist Church, Sphinx Temple A.A.N.O.M.S. Shrine, all in Connecticut, and Kora Shrine, Ivy Chapter 16,Union Lodge 31, Rockland Lodge 1005 B.P.O.E. (Elks), and the Mid-Coast Shrine Club, all of Maine.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Stratton Chadwick of Union, Maine; mother, Elizabeth Chadwick, of Port Clyde, Maine; children, Jeanine C. Whiting of Bolton, and Brian P. Chadwick of Woolwich, Maine; grandchildren, Jason Whiting of Bolton and Melissa Chadwick of Richmond, Maine; siblings, Alton Chadwick, Roger Chadwick, Gwendolyn Villano, Adele Weilock, and Cynthia Chadwick; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, Maine. Burial will follow at the Ridge Cemetery in Martinsville, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kno-Wal-Lin, c/c Northeast Health, 170 Pleasant St., Rockland, ME 04841.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home and Cremation service, 949 Main St., Waldoboro, Maine.
