Marian Hislop Obituary

Marian Hislop, 95, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at her home in the company of her family in Sturgeon Bay, Wis.

She was born Oct. 21, 1916, in Green Bay, Wis., the daughter of the late Emil John and Hester Ann (Laurie) Hansen. Marian was graduated from U.W. Madison in 1941 with a bachelor's degree in Speech Therapy. She married George Hislop on June 13, 1942 and shared 44 years together. He preceded her in death Aug. 1, 1986.

Marian was active in PEO, Charter member of Miller Arts Center, was instrumental (with her sister, Laurie Nowack) in the creation of the Door Community Auditorium and served as its Past President (Emeritus), and was active in the Racine Theatre Guild where she had directed "The Curse Of An Aching Heart", and acting in others. She was a member of the U.W. Alumni.

She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, especially bridge, golfing, sailing, and traveling to many wonders of the world. Hawaii was her favorite destination. "Maui was like coming home".

Those who knew her will always reflect on Marian as a philanthropist with grace, dignity, and a legacy of life accomplishments.

She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Auntie Marian, whose purpose was to live life through the joy of her family. Marian is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Richard) Board, Stevens Point; Margaret (Dale) West, Green Bay; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Aaron) Smith and great-grand-daughter, Cora Leigh Smith, Sterling, Va.; Karsten Board (swinging bachelor), Denver, Colo.; many nieces and nephews; and her loving dog, Laddie.

Marian is preceded in death by her husband, George (1986); her daughter, Joan Hislop (2005); her grand-daughter, Laura; sister, Laurie Hansen Nowack; and her brother, Dr. Robert Hansen; and her dog, Schnapps. She will be sorely missed by countless people that were blessed to be part of her life.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Bjorklunden in Baileys Harbor on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, with the Rev. Phillips Sweet and the Rev. Alex Hansen (nephew) officiating. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in honor of Marian. Huehns Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
