Hoffmann, Lorraine Lynn Daughter of the late Harri and the late Herta (nee Goldschmidt) Hoffmann. Lorraine passed away peacefully on July 11, 2017 after a brief illness at age 74. She was president of the Harri Hoffmann Company, a manufacturer of shoe and leather products, which her father started in the late 1930's after immigrating from Aurich, Germany. Lorraine was born and raised in Milw. After receiving her BA in economics from the Univ. of WI-Madison and a master's degree from Columbia University in NY, she moved to Chicago where she worked as an Assistant VP at Merrill Lynch. After her father passed away in 1999, she returned to Milw. to run the family business. Lorraine was a treasured member of Milwaukee's Jewish community which she supported with her boundless energy and ceaseless determination. She was a generous philanthropist supporting numerous organizations and serving on various boards including Lake Park Synagogue, Goethe House WI, WITS, The Orthodox Union of America, the Museum of Beer and Brewing, the Corporate Board of MSOE and Holocaust Education Resource Center. Lorraine will be dearly missed by relatives, friends and all of the people that she touched throughout her life. Funeral service Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the JCC, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Whitefish Bay. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, 2615 W. Cleveland Avenue, Milw. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Lake Park Synagogue, WITS or the charity of your choice appreciated.

Lorraine is gone; I'm sad. I met her in a Riverside High School, Milwaukee, Plane Geometry class in 1958. She was smart. She was friendly. She was a contributor. Years separated the times that I crossed paths with her. It was not until later in life that I learned of the difficult times her parents had in Germany before and during the WWII years. One day, while out running, I passed her house on Lake Drive. She was digging dandelions out of the lawn and asked me if I knew a better method. Another time she came up to me at a Goethe House meeting and re-introduced herself. Always she was the dignified, smart girl I knew from high school. I will always have good memories of her.

Lorraine and her parents were wonderful people, while we competed in business I have never had a cross word or time when dealing with them and knew they had the highest integrity. Her mother and father would travel and visit my wife and I and were the most wonderful people. I feel a deep sadness.

Dear Lorraine, OBM: you were our mother to us all, pragmatically kind, graciously humble, concerned and a rare tzaddik. Today, at LPS, as we were eating, as we have done at each Shabbos kiddush...I kept expecting to see you come out of the kitchen with a dish you'd prepared. You are so missed. Sincere condolences to all of Lorraine's loved ones on her passing.

Lorraine was a dear friend of my wife and I, and her help was invaluable to me years ago when she lived in Chicago and was a member of the Chicago Police Department's 23rd District Steering Committee.

Lorraine organized the District's annual Christmas party, where all children who attended were given a gift. She also conceived "Operation Mitten," a program that allowed our police officers to give gloves and mittens to needy children at schools and on the streets during the cold winter months. She told us that the mittens came from a "secret Santa" in Wisconsin.

May her memory be a blessing, as it was certainly a blessing to know her.
