Robert Ross Obituary

Robert Ross
February 14, 1949 - January 13, 2021
Orlando, Florida - Heaven got a bit brighter when Robert Lewis Ross, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 71 on January 13th, 2021.
Robert "Bob" was born to Robert Clifton and Ethel Ruth Ross (Edwards) in Wichita, Kansas on Valentine's Day 1949. After attending West High School, he worked for Cessna then proudly served his country for 4 years as Air Force Military Police in Vietnam and Wichita Falls, TX. Upon returning to Wichita, he worked for 30+ years as a cable splicer for SWB/SWBT/AT&T and loved playing on the company softball team. He received an Associate's Degree from Friends University in 2001. Bob retired to Florida, and Mildred (Montgomery) was soon to follow. Together, they enjoyed attending Tampa Bay Rays baseball, Tampa Bay Buccaneers football, the beaches, and visiting the Universal Studios Boardwalk. Bob was the proud father of two boys, and he relished his role as grandfather and great-grandfather.
Bob was known for his quick wit, dry sense of humor, humility, and never wanting to inconvenience anyone. He enjoyed a love of music and was an avid sports fan, especially the Cardinals, Sooners, and Raiders.
Bob is survived in death by his wife Mildred, sister Ethel, sons Steve and Robert Allan, grandchildren Samantha and Bronson, and great-grandson Zane. He was welcomed into eternity by his parents Robert and Ethel Ruth, brother Bill, and brother-in-law Richard. Due to covid, Bob will be cremated and no services are currently planned.

My deepest sympathies to Mildred, Steven, & Allan. Bob was a true friend. We started running around together when I was in Jr. High. Bob was 4 years older than me be it didn't stop him from inviting me along in his adventures. Bob entered the Air Force but we still kept touch, either by letter or when he was home on leave. When Bob returned from the service he got a beautiful Plymouth Roadrunner. We took that car everywhere.
Bob invited me to play on his SWB slo-pitch team. Honestly those were the best years of my life. So many great friends and times.
Bob was gracious enough to serve as my best man at my wedding.
Unfortunately, when I got on the Police force I worked 3rd shift and lost contact with most of the team members.
Bob loved his Oakland Raiders and St. Louis Cardinals. His love for the Cards was one of many things we had in common. I never met anyone who knew music like Bob did. He could name any song by any band and most of the members of that band.
I'm so, so sorry that Bobby suffered so at the end. His suffering is over now, so he's free to play the "hot corner" again.
I'll miss you Bobby Ross, sorry we lost contact.
Gus

I am so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. I knew him through my ex spouse Terry Shain. Incidentally, Terry just passed away this last Monday the 18th. They worked together a number of years. I used to gig Bob all the time about his beloved Sooners. And..yes Bob, I am the one that put the KSU Wildcats flag on your porch and photographed it for the guys at work! All my love to the family.

My deepest sympathies to Mildred, Steven, & Allan...I worked with Bob for 27 of his 30+ years at Bell and he could always be counted on to be a good conversationalist...His versatility involving a myriad of subjects is something that I'll always remember about him...We both loved baseball, and could talk for seemingly endless sessions about our National Pastime...In the late 1980's I witnessed my new found Christian faith and I remember Bob being both supportive and happy for me...He was among the best at delivering a funny one-liner which often would put his listeners at ease...I was certainly sorry to hear about his earthly suffering, but it is safe to say that our sorrows in this life will be mitigated beyond measure in the life to come!! I look forward to seeing Bob in the perfection of Heaven. Mark Nale

Bob always had a quiet and easy approach to life. Sometimes it looked as if he wasn't listening or participating in the conversation but then he would speak up and I knew he had been involved the entire time.

Bob was my brother-in-law and I'm very happy my sister had him in her life. The two of them sure took great care of each other. I will always remember Bob Ross and the impact he had on the family. He will be misssed.

Bob was my best friend in high school. We had some really fun times. After high school we joined the Air Force 3 months apart. He served honorably and I made it a career. So sorry we lost touch.

So many years have passed and we all have taken different paths through life here on earth,,I do have wonderful memories of our youth. Bob was a few years older than most of the other boys in the Orchard, so yes, he was the dominant male..What I remember most was playing football in the empty lot next to his house. He was never to rough on us younger guys. and "dragging" Douglas, he had the car and we were young and willing...All good memories of a friend long forgotten until today..Rest in Peace Bob...Thanks for the memories,,
