The family suggests contributions to Hospice of Olathe and/or Fort Scott Community College Athletic Department, 2108 S. Horton, Fort Scott, KS 66701. The family also asks that you please share how Floyd has touched your life. Your stories will be cherished for years as we celebrate the lasting legacy he has left behind. Please leave your remembrances at www.PenwellGabelOlathe.com, or you can also bring them to the visitation or service. Floyd was born April 18, 1928 to Floyd & Daisy Huggins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Robert & Larry. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan E. Huggins, of the home; as well as his daughter, Candi Stewart; his two grandsons, Matt & Eric; three sisters: Vivian, Peggy, and Shirley; and one brother, Ted. Floyd is a graduate of Olathe High School. He went to Fort Scott Community College where his talent led him to be placed in the National Jr. College Football Hall of Fame. FSCC launched him to the next step of his football career at the University of Florida where he graduated with a Bachelor in Education then later earned a Master's degree from Pitt State University in Education. While playing for the University of Florida, he played in the only after season event, the North vs. South All-Star game. Following his college career, after 2 years of service in the United States Navy, Floyd went on to play with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Rounding out his football days, Floyd coached many young men to greatness with his raw talent, motivation, and dedication to create not only the best football teams, but players that would grow to be positive role models and respected members of their community. Floyd was a member of the Board of Trustees of JCCC, on the Greater Kansas City Sports commission, and served as president of the Mid America Saddle Horse Club. Floyd's professional career was spent as Vice President of Fidelity Union Life Insurance company for 21 years. More than any career, athletic or academic accolade, Floyd was a devoted father to his only child, Candi, as well as the greatest 'papa' his two grandsons, Matt & Eric, could ever have. His presence was great in all of our lives. Although we will miss him deeply, his legacies will live on through all who knew & loved him.

It´s nice to still be remembered and get emails from coach´s website. I will always remember him as one person that took care of me and everyone else. He was an awesome football coach and friend. McArthur high school, Hollywood, Florida

I remember coach with nothing but admiration and respect. I wonder why the fact that he coached high school football at McArthur high school in Hollywood, Florida was not mentioned. He was a great coach and mentor!
Dave Eason, now retired in Glenrock, Wyoming. I´ll probably be up to see you soon coach. I´m 81 now.

I played football for coach at McArthur high school, I wasn't as good as the other players but coach always brought the best out of me. He always called me "Big Luke". I have a letter from him written about three years ago framed in my office that I am so proud of. My condolences to all the family and "Rest in peace" coach.

Ms. Joan and Candi my sympathies go to your loss. I concur with my mom and hope that he and Dad reunite in eternity. I have many fond memories (and stories) of Coach and tell them to my children. They love them as much as I do. He was a positive influence in my life and I will cherish him always. God Bless you.

When the Lord calls our loved ones home, he leaves a gift of memories in exchange. Coach and Joan were such a positive mentor to Mickey . I hope Mickey and Coach will be reunited in eternity.

To the family of Floyd Huggins: I haven't seen Floyd since high school but will remember the mischief he and DeNoon would cook up for me at the time. One time they lifted up the back tires off the ground so the car couldn't move but the tires would spin. It was always something like this but you sort of get used to it.
Glad to read the accomplishments of Floyd through out his lifetime. I hope he remembered to study for his finals! God bless all of you in your time of sorrow.

Floyd was an inspiration to me. I remember as a teenager watching him play solfball with his brother-in-law Bob Farmer, my brothers Lon and Lynn in Ft Scott or Pittsburg, He looked like a Greek God to me and he always went at everything 100%. Joan, I wish that I could have been at the funeral. I would have loved seeing you and the family. The best to you and the family.

Floyd was known as Uncle Floyd to me, I remember his voice the most, I loved to hear him talk and although it has been several years since I last spoke to him I can still hear his voice as if he were right next to me. I do remember it seemed as if he was always trying to convey a message to me even when very young. Sam Blubaugh (Parsons, KS)

Mr Huggins was a wonderful person, thru the years that I was one of Candi's rival competitors in the horse show ring, the fun that we all had outside the ring made that part of showing that much more fun. My best memory of the big heartedness of Mr Huggins was at the Missouri State Fair, Mr Huggins hadn't felt that Candi's horse had made a good show, but won the blue. As I was coming out of the ring with last place Mr Huggins stopped me and my parents and said that we should have won over Candi that day. Mrs Huggins/Candi my heart is with you. My dad was an amazing man. Every day of his life, he showed the true character of a champion. Whether he was guiding his grandsons as they grow or helping his siblings through their lives, he truly cared about others and lived to make their lives better. He taught me that with determination and courage, I could do anything I set out to do. I have heard numerous stories of 'coach' from so many former players and coaches about how my dad had changed their lives for the better. Thank you to all who cherished him and allowed him to guide them. He will truly be missed.

I will always remember Floyd as my third Big Brother. With Floyd, Bob and Sam together again, can Heaven be the same? I know Olathe will not.
