Marilyn - I am so sorry to learn of Norman's passing this year. It somehow slipped past me and I truly apologize for not finding out sooner. Please accept my condolences on his passing - I know he was so special in everyone's life, but especially yours.

As a Councilperson in Fairway, Senator Gaar was such a truly real public servant for us all. Always available, kind, well grounded, but with a class and spirit, based in his own common sense, that always made us feel represented in our cities, county and state. He truly was not only a war hero, but a hero of the crucial growth of Johnson County. Our condolences go out to John and Jean, and all the Gaar family. Good people.

As the Kansas political correspondent for the Kansas City Star, I covered Sen. Gaar from 1978 to 1982. He was the kind of leader you want to see in public life: smart, diligent, inclusive and wise. He embodied Kansas values at that time: a fiscal conservative who was moderate on social issues and who also believed in nurturing the state's public schools and higher education system. He represented his district and the state well.

Dear Marilyn and family,
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Norm. He was a great mentor to me as a young attorney and I owe him a debt of gratitude for the time, experience and wisdom he shared with me. My deeepest sympathies are with the family at this time.

Dear Marilyn and family, I am truly sorry to hear that Norman has fallen asleep in death. May he sleep peacefully until Jesus calls him to be resurrected and to rejoin family and friends (Jo 3:16). Please accept my condolences. Andrew

Ann, please except my condolences for the death of your dad. I remember as a kid talking to him about airplanes. And he let us drive your boat at the lake house. A fun and great guy!. I know you will miss him.
