GENE BARNES Obituary

Gene Barnes, of Kansas City, Mo., quietly passed away May 25, 2015, at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue Barnes; children and their spouses, Mike and Marci Barnes, Mark and Sherrie Barnes, Pam and Ken Muncy; 10 grandchildren, Megan, Matt, Aaron, Carissa, Alec, Katlin, Phil, Ryan, Adam, and Andy; his seven great-grandchildren, Emerson, Avery, Gus, Aiden, Natalie, AJ and Colin; sister, Shirley Welch; and brother, Howard Barnes. There is also a host of family and friends who will miss Gene dearly. Gene was born in Brownell, Kan., and grew up in the central part of the state, graduating from Macksville High School in 1953. He and Sue married that August and he took a part time job at J.C. Penney while going to college. After a two year stint in the Army he returned to Kansas and completed his Bachelor's degree at Emporia State College. He then began a full time career with J.C. Penney that would span 41 years, including stops in Kansas, Colorado, Missouri and Texas. Gene devoted time to various service organizations over the years and was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Conroe, Texas. He enjoyed golf and the time he got to spend with friends and family on the course. A memorial service will be held in his honor at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Langsford Funeral Home, 115 SW Third Street, Lee's Summit, MO 64063.
