He enrolled at Iowa State University, but when World War II broke out, he enlisted in the Army and bravely served in Europe. Robert trained to be a paratrooper, but when the Army learned he was studying engineering, he was transferred to a unit of combat engineers building bridges throughout Europe. They were happily married for 29 years, recently retiring to Santa Marta Retirement community, Olathe, KS, in 2013. He loved his big family more than anything, taking great pride in the accomplishments of all of his grandkids (15) and great grandkids (14). He will be missed by so many. Peggy,

I am so sorry for your loss.

It was always nice when you and Bob would stop by the PGI office. We missed that when you moved away.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so very sorry that Bob has left us. He was a good man. Peggy and Ernie you have my deepest sympathy. When you and Bob and my husband Joe Sisk got together we always had fun. Bob had the very best sense of humor and he made me laugh so often. He will certainly be missed.
