Daughter of Garrettson Dulin and Jane Stimson Dulin, Ethlyn , Dulie as she was known to all, grew up in Pasadena, California, where she was born.
Dulie attended the Polytechnic School , The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York, then on to Scripps College in Claremont, California, from where she graduated in 1943. Following graduation, Dulie volunteered for the Red Cross, serving as a Grey Lady stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii. After her service, she returned home to start a nursery school, which was attended by children of Hollywood's legendary families. Around this time, she met Gordon Keith Ware and they were married in June, 1946.
Dulie was an active volunteer with the Junior League of Pasadena and Chicago, where she served as President. She was also a member of The Contemporary Club, having served as President, the Know Your Chicago Club, The Women's Athletic Club, the Belvedere Club and the Dunham Woods Riding Club. Dulie was an accomplished horsewoman, having spent many years as a child riding with her father. Her love for animals, especially her pug dogs, continued throughout her life. Especially pleasurable were her visits to the Brookfield Zoo. Dulie loved people of all ages, treating everyone she met with respect, love and genuine interest. She adored engaging with young people, appreciated a good sense of humor, and lived her life with indomitable spirit and joy. She loved challenging books, intellectual discussions, current events and traveling later in her life with her dear friend, Corwith Hamill. Many will remember her as a stylish lady: dressed in colorful attire, highlighted by her immaculate, white hair.
Dulie is survived by her four children: Victoria Jessopp (Charles), Keith Ware (Heather), Alyson Hellman (Peter) and Jane Swaffield (Payson); ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two brothers, Garrettson Dulin Jr.and Robert Dulin.
