Opal Johnson Obituary

Opal Marcene (Mincks) Johnson, 94, of Vermillion, South Dakota passed away on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Sanford Vermillion Care Center surrounded by her family.

Opal donated her body to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine and will be interned at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha, NE at a later date.

Opal was born December 26, 1926 in Gayville, South Dakota to LeRoy and Ruth (Browning) Mincks.

Opal is survived by her daughter, Janice Peterson of Paducah, KY, and her son, James (Linda) Johnson of St. Charles, MO; her sisters, Inez Nielsen of Burbank, SD, Marjorie Nichols of Humboldt, KS; her brothers, Darryl and Gary Mincks both of Vermillion; a niece, Ronda Miller of Omaha, NE, and a nephew, Scott (Joan) Nielsen of Burbank, SD; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nathen Johnson, four brothers, Leo, Clifford, LaMoine, and Kenneth Mincks; four sisters, Deloris Clarke, Betty Mincks, Lorraine Harkness, and Helen Kodlacher, and her special niece, Amber DeWitt.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the 1st Baptist Church, 101 East Main Street, Vermillion, SD 57069.
