Mary Casnelli Obituary

Mary Casnelli

Knoxville, TN

Mary Alice (Malone) Casnelli, born October 29, 1931, passed away November 9, 2016. Known to most as Mary Alice and to some as MAC, she was born in Nashville, TN, and was raised in the West Nashville Methodist Faith. As a young adult she worked on an Air Force Base in Nashville as a civilian which led to her meeting Wallace Casnelli, her future husband and best friend for 60 years. Together they established Wallace X-Ray where Mary Alice managed the office from 1968 till her retirement in 1998. Her love for others and her personal strength to never back down from a challenge led Mary Alice on many an adventure. From being a Girl Scout Leader in Lonsdale and taking young girls out into the woods for overnight camping trips to riding off road on her motorcycle with the guys, or driving to Las Vegas alone, to visit her life long friend long before it was generally accepted. Most of her nieces and nephews first trip to the Smokey Mountains and barefoot stroll into a cold mountain stream was at the hand of Mary Alice. Together Mary Alice and Wallace, also known as Cas, spent many Saturdays preparing meals at home and then delivering them around the Knoxville area. She assisted Cas when he was the Commodore of the Fort Loudon Yacht Club and they worked together with the St. Vincent DePaul Society at their church, Sacred Heart Cathedral. Mary Alice has given and will continue to give back to the area that she called home. She has made a difference in an untold number of peoples lives, sometimes without them ever knowing who was responsible for their good fortune. To Mary Alice it was just simply being a caring and thoughtful person.

Preceded in death by her father, William Hugh Malone; mother, W. Gladys (Goodwin) Malone; and husband, Wallace Casnelli.

Survived by her brother, Tom Malone; sister-in-law, Barb Malone; nieces, Kelly (Malone) Russo, Bonnie (Malone) Houghton, Stephanie McIntosh, Chris Casnelli, Avis Vandergrift-Fisher; nephews, Michael McIntosh, Marc Casnelli; next door neighbors and dear friends, Hardy and Freda Rankin; and many great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 14, 2016, from 5:00-6:30 p.m., at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel, 6200 Kingston Pike, with prayer service immediately following. The graveside service will be Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., at Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, on John Sevier Highway. Mary Alice was my beloved friend, like a sister to me. We spent many hours and traveled many miles together. Farewell sweet friend, I will always love you and miss you.

Mary Alice was my beloved friend. We spent hours, and sometimes days, together, as I traveled with her to visit her family in Nashville. We made an annual trip to Savannah in the Spring. I went with her to Atlanta when Cass had surgery at Emory. We always traveled very easily together. We led a Girl Scout troop together, we painted together, and went camping together. I loved her like a sister and will miss her to the end of my days.

I remember Mary Alice as a very hard working, energetic, caring, and adventurous woman. Having worked for, and with, Mary Alice and Cas in the late sixties to mid seventies, she always relayed good values and work ethics to those around her. So sorry for her passing.
