Martha Norton Obituary

Martha Louise Tucker Norton

Lenoir City, TN

Martha Louise Tucker Norton's earthly journey ended at her home in Lenoir City, TN on April 2, 2018. She was a member of West End Church of Christ. Martha was born on February 29, 1936 in Memphis, TN. She was very involved with friends and clubs at Harding College, and she graduated with an education degree. She went on to teach elementary school, and she was a successful AAA travel agent as well. She and her devoted husband, Maurice Kenneth Norton enjoyed their life together and worked hard for many years. But with their eyes on the Smoky Mountains, they relocated to Tennessee in 1994. After his sudden death in 1995, Martha began her dream to hike every trail in the Smokies, and she completed this amazing accomplishment on July 1, 2005 and gained membership to the 900 Mile Club. Known as 'the Trail Boss', she continued to hike every Wednesday with her group of close friends and even completed the trails for a second time on October 26, 2011. Her beloved trail friends recall Martha's knowledge of every trail in the Smoky Mountains! She knew every rock and river crossing, navigated bravely around rattlesnakes, and even saw 21 bears in one summer! Martha is survived by her daughter Leslie Anne Norton; grandchildren Grant, Maggie, Megan, Logan, and Christian; great-grandchildren Avery Marie and Layla Rose; brother-in-law Robert W. Norton and his wife Jean; sister-in-law Nancy Tucker; three nephews Greg, Zachary and Bradley; two nieces Lori and Jenny; one grand nephew Jonathan, and three grand nieces Mari Olivia, Natalie and Karis. She is preceded in death by her parents William T. Tucker and Margaret Caughlin of Memphis, TN; her devoted husband Maurice Kenneth Norton and her brother William T. Tucker. Martha is known for her contagious laugh, dry wit, and her gift of fighting for joy in the face of sorrow. She loved her family, and was very intentional with her time and affection. We are confident that the peace of God ministered to her heart on the trails of the Great Smoky Mountains. 2 Thess. 2:16-17 "Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word." There will be a memorial service on April 21, 2018 at Click's Funeral Home in Lenoir City, TN at 11:00 a.m. Click Funeral Home, 109 Walnut Street, Lenoir City is in charge of arrangements. www.clickfuneralhome.com
